It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Anthony Michael Maturani, affectionately known as Tony, who departed this world on September 29, 2025, in San Diego, California, after a courageous battle with brain cancer (LMD). Born on July 14, 1951, in London, Ontario, Canada, Tony graced this earth for 74 years, leaving behind a legacy of love, joy, and cherished memories. Tony was the beloved son of James and Alberta Maturani, who preceded him in death, alongside his dear brother, Rocky Maturani. He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Maturani (Susie), whom he married on August 1, 1970, in Phoenix, Arizona, after having met as high school sweethearts. Together, they created a beautiful family that includes their son, Tony Maturani Jr., and his wife, Tiffany Maturani, as well as their daughter, Stacy Maturani Denison, and her husband, Jason Denison.
Tony was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Taelar Maturani Oberg (husband Connor), Austin Denison, April Denison, Hudson Maturani, and Amelia Maturani. He also delighted in the love of two great-grandchildren, Ryder Oberg and Walker Oberg.
Tony’s family extended beyond his immediate relatives; he is also survived by his sister, Anita Williams (husband Tom), along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and many lifelong friends who will forever hold his memory dear.
A proud graduate of Maryvale High School class of 1969 in Phoenix, Arizona, Tony excelled in various sports, including football, baseball, and track, earning recognition as one of the fastest sprinters in his school. Following high school, he honorably served in the Marine Corps from 1969 to 1971, a period that instilled in him a deep sense of pride and patriotism. His time as a Marine was a significant part of his identity, reflected in his heartfelt mantra, “SEMPER FI.”
Tony dedicated 42 years of his life to his career as an insurance broker, retiring in 2019. He cherished the time spent working alongside his daughter, Stacy, for the last 12 years of his career, where they built a strong bond while closing the door on their professional journey together.
In his personal life, Tony found great pride and joy in nurturing his garden, considering himself a master gardener with a remarkable green thumb. His ability to bring plants back to life was a testament to his nurturing spirit. Golf was another passion that brought him happiness; while he may not have been a professional, his enthusiasm for the game was infectious, and he was well-known for his cheerful proclamation, “I Love This Game!” whenever he made a great shot.
He will always be remembered by friends, family and neighbors for the phrase “Living the Dream” which he did each and every day.
Tony’s greatest pride was his family. He was a devoted father and grandfather who never missed a sporting event, dance recital, or significant moment in the lives of his children and grandchildren. His warmth, jovial personality, and contagious smile made him approachable and beloved by everyone he met. He was a doting grandfather whose famous malts became a cherished memory for his grandchildren, embodying the love and nurturing spirit that defined his life.
A celebration of Tony’s life will be held on November 5, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Miramar National Cemetery, where family and friends will gather to honor the incredible man he was. A reception will follow at the Country Club Rancho Bernardo at 12:30 PM, allowing all who knew and loved Tony to share stories and celebrate his extraordinary life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, honoring Tony’s memory and supporting others in their battles against cancer.
As we say goodbye to Tony, we carry with us the lessons of love, kindness, and the importance of family that he imparted throughout his life. He will forever remain in our hearts, and his legacy will live on through the lives he touched. Rest in peace, dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. You are deeply missed.
