Antonette Josephine (Musumeci) Milazzo was born on June 5, 1922 in Los Angeles, California to Frank Musumeci and Mary (Aloisio) Musumeci. She grew up in the Boyle Heights area of Los Angeles. She attended Bridge Street Elementary School and Bishop Conaty Catholic Girls High School.
She was an accomplished pianist and won several competitions and was even offered an audition for movies.
She got her driver’s license when she turned 16, which was unusual at the time. She drove until December 2017, when she was 95. She would always say that she could still drive.
Even as a young girl, she couldn’t wait to drive.
Her family teased her about being “Lead Foot Annie”!
She married Sam Milazzo on April 27, 1946 in Los Angeles. They raised their children in the Midwick tract of Alhambra, California. She was very involved with her children’s activities at school, scouts, and Little League. She was a room mother at Saint Thomas More Catholic elementary School and chaperoned an Edison High School Drill Team trip to Hawaii.
She was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking for her family. Her homemade cream puffs at Easter were positively delicious. She made assorted Italian cookies at Christmas. Her 7 grandchildren all adored her Viscotes. When their friends knew she was coming to town to visit, they always came by for some Viscotes!!
As much as everyone adored her cookies, her lemon meringue pie was by far her specialty. No one can make a meringue even close to hers! Her meringue was sky high and fluffy!
Ann enjoyed sewing and over the years she made clothes for her daughters.
Ann and Sam moved from Alhambra to Huntington Beach in 1972 and lived there until 2018. They loved Huntington Beach. They enjoyed riding their bikes and walking the beach path for many years.
Many family gatherings were celebrated at their house, including their 70th wedding anniversary in 2016. She loved it when her family came to visit and always made sure there was a fresh loaf or two of Lucci’s bread for sandwiches (another favorite of her grandchildren).
Ann worked for both Los Angeles and Orange counties in their Family Services Department as support staff.
After retirement, Ann volunteered at the senior center in Huntington Beach, played in Saint Simon and Jude’s Bell Choir and was a member of the “Nifty After Fifty” aerobic group.
In March 2018 after 46 years in Huntington Beach, Ann and Sam moved to The Remington Assisted Living in San Diego. She enjoyed playing chair bocce ball, craft activities, and Sunday Communion services at The Remington.
Ann is survived by her three children, Paul, Marianne, Annette (John), seven grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren.
