

Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1918, the former Antonina Giarratano moved with her family in 1922 to her parents' native Mazara del Vallo on the Italian island of Sicily. In 1937, she married Santo Giametta, also of Mazara del Vallo. The couple and four young daughters immigrated to the United States in 1949.
Following nearly five years in New York City, the family moved to San Diego in 1954, where they lived in Little Italy before settling permanently into San Diego's historic Burlingame neighborhood in 1957.
Mrs. Giametta was preceded in death by her husband Santo in 2004. Survivors include a son, Salvatore Giametta of San Diego; daughters Susan Ingrande, Catherine Acquaro, Joann Ingargiola and Josephine Pizzo of San Diego; two sisters, Katie Ingrande of San Diego and Pina Farina of Mazara del Vallo, Sicily; and a brother, Vince Giarratano of San Diego; 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Visitation: Monday, August 30, 4-8 p.m. at Goodbody Mortuary, 5027 El Cajon, Blvd. Mass is scheduled for Tuesday, August 31, 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery & Mausoleum, with entombment to follow, 4470 Hilltop Drive. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to San Diego Hospice.
