I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Art. Your husband was an amazing person to have around. I am so lucky to have met him in this life.
I met Art when your family first moved from Chicago to Fresno and he joined UPAACC. Right away we hit it off because we have a common passion – to serve and support the goals of the University of the Philippines through our alumni association. Right after joining UPAACC, he became a board member for the Fresno area, then the vice-president and in 2011 he became its president. As you know, Art and I right away worked together on many fund-raising projects for UPAACC. 
The fund-raising project that I remember well and very fond of was the 2008 Centennial Walk, to commemorate the founding of the University of the Philippines. It is similar to the Oblation run at UP Diliman. At UP Diliman, the Oblation run is done with masked, naked male students emulating the Oblation statue. I agreed with Art to do the fund-raising but with a caveat: no naked members running around Woodward Park. For one thing, we may be arrested for indecent exposure and also who would want to see middle-aged men running around in their birthday suits. We had a lot of fun and, I believe, made some money in that fund-raising.
We also had some time traveling together and so we got to talk and learned a lot about each other. Although we did not agree on everything, we remained good friends and respected one another. Art was a perfect gentleman and a great human being. He will be missed for his goodness in life. 
Though Art is gone, he still lives in your heart and in the children and grandchildren that he has left you. Cherish and treasure those memories for they will give you strength to carry on. We may not understand why he had to leave us so soon, but we pray that God will comfort you and lift you up. Our prayers and thoughts are with you during this painful time that you have lost your husband. You are not alone.

My fondest childhood memories include the times spent with Uncle Art and his family.  It is what comes to mind when I speak to my kids about parts of my childhood.

The trips down to Chicago, every other summer, touring Chicago, the drive to New York, and other road trips with Tito Art’s station wagon that somehow seated more people than my dad’s deluxe brown van.

I was one of the younger cousins and I will never forget, being one of the smaller passengers, how much I hated being crammed in the back flat part of that station wagon squeezed in next to Arnold on one side and Coleman (the cooler) and a rice cooker on the other.  Looking back on it now, I recognize that Uncle Art squeezed so many people into that car because he didn’t want to leave anyone behind and he always went out of his way to keep the family connected and make sure every single person was included and felt like they were important. 

That was one of the incredibly special things about Uncle Art in my eyes. He was a teacher and a mentor to so many by sharing his knowledge and his experience but he also led by example and left an unforgettable legacy behind through the importance he placed on being there for the people you love. Life is short and Uncle Art didn’t waste time because he always made the time and put in the effort to connect and be there for the people he loved. Uncle Art you will be missed dearly. We know that you are at peace and that you are still watching over your family.

His dedication, leadership, and contributions to the International Cement Microscopy Association (ICMA) will be greatly missed! Uncle Art was a big part of our lives growing up in Chicago on 23rd Street and later when all our growing families moved out to the suburbs. I remember when Uncle helped Mom and Dad plan our custom-designed concrete patio pad in Roselle, Illinois. Uncle had his company pour the concrete and the special pebbled rock border. Afterwards the American crew had Mom's special Filipino cooking and you could tell then how much his team respected him and the culture he was introducing to them. 

Later in life, I led a neighborhood Sidewalk Committee to replace historic sidewalks in my neighborhood. I used to tell my neighborhood Board how I learned to appreciate concrete specs because of my Uncle! 

Uncle always had humorous words of advice for all the cousins that seem to gather around him.  I'm sure he's cracking jokes now with all our deceased family at the big Lechon party in the sky . Until we meet again, help watch over us  and enjoy the heavenly party, Uncle. 

Deepest condolences to Auntie Nena, the Nisperos family and friends of Uncle Art.  I have a fond memory of Uncle Art telling us about a time that his car broke down.  He said he lifted the hood and said a prayer over the engine.  After that the car started!   So, I hope if I ever have car trouble I can count on Uncle and the angels to help.  Congratulations Uncle on completing your journey.  God Bless!!

I remember Uncle Art and his family coming to visit us in Canada and road trips to Downers Grove to visit their family. Those were fun times growing up! When I was in high school and living in Los Angeles, Uncle Art invited me to stay at their house for two summers. He was always so welcoming and kind. I remember touring UCLA and Stanford. Uncle Art valued family and education. He was a man of faith and loved his family, work, travel, many organizations, and Christian community. May Uncle Art Rest In Peace. 

My Uncle Art was a man of a fun, loving and kind heart.  I have fun and fond memories of Uncle – like from the times he would bring the young kids to see the Star Wars movies, to the road trips to Canada with all the kids packed in the back of his station wagon, and to the time he helped mend my broken arm, to help take the pain away when I fell off my cousin’s bicycle.  
Not only was he my loving Uncle, but he was also my Ninong/Godfather.  Without a doubt, by his words and actions, you knew he was a man of great faith.  How fun it was to listen and see how proud he was to tell stories and share pictures of his Mother Mary grotto and backyard!  As my Godfather, he helped me tremendously in my own walk with Christ.   During my college years, I contemplated converting to another Christian denomination.  But it was during that summer, I had a conversation with Uncle, that helped me stay with my Catholic faith instead of converting.   The Holy Spirit’s wisdom was working through him.  Through that I grew more in my Catholic faith, and am grateful to carry that faith on to my own children.  Thank you Uncle Art.  Thank you Ninong Art.  You are loved.  It is comforting to know that Auntie, Arthur, Arnez and Arnold have you their angel watching over them.  We will see you again in Heaven!  Love, Anabel     


My first memory of Uncle Art was when we first arrived in the U.S. He helped dad pick us up from the airport and I got to ride with him in his car.  His car smelled so good.  During the drive going  home, uncle  proudly spoke about the beautiful Chicago. He said, look at the road, it's smooth and "naranyag". Very true, the express way was lined with bright lights that never ended. He was very excited as he waved his hands and said, look here, look there, nakita yo?" He drove us to his house where we met Auntie Nena (another entertainer) and uncle Art served us canned  peaches. Oh, they were so delicious. He continued to be a loving and caring uncle whom we will never forget. He was funny and easy to get along with. To you, Uncle, may you rest in peace. You will be greatly missed. We love you. Frank, Jackie, Meghan, and I will keep you in our hearts forever.

I will remember Uncle Art as a fun loving person, who likes to share his stories on the area of his expertise – rocks, mineral and stones formations including cement mixtures. He also share his humble beginnings, stories on his supernatural encounters, life in Canada in the 60’s so on and so forth and most importantly his true faith in God. 

When we were kids, whenever we visits Chicago, we are always welcome to stay at their house. He will find something for us to do and bond with him. I will never forget our Great America vacation trip with his family and we had an amazing time together. Uncle Art loves and enjoy family gatherings especially attending weddings and birthdays. Lastly, I remember when I visited San Diego, Uncle Art and Arthur and I went on a fishing trip on a boat in the middle of the ocean. He told me that he loves fishing and he used to fish a lot at Rice Lake with his friends which is a driving distance away from Toronto, Ontario.

We will remember him as a loving husband and a father, a good provider for his family, very proud of his three sons, kind, helpful and generous to others. He is a great leader not only in the areas of his expertise but also in the Christian community. He is surrounded by families and friends who loves him dearly. He is truly blessed and blessed means happy, fortunate and to be envied. His success in life did not just come from his hard work and dedication to his work or support from his family but also comes from his strong belief in God. I truly believed that his heart faith is what moves God’s graces and abilities in his life. He is a child of God with a spirit of power, love and a sound mind. 

On behalf of my Mom (Aurora Medrano Bangcaya) and the Bangcaya’s family, we would like to extend our heartfelt sincere deepest sympathy to Auntie Nena, Arthur, Arnez and Arnold. May the peace of  God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and bring comfort and joy in the midst of your sorrows.






Uncle Art was like a 2nd father to me. I will never forget the countless weekends that my brother Roger and I would sleep over at his house to spend time with cousins Art, Arnez and Arnold. Uncle Art had so much energy and patience for this special group of 5 boys. My fond memories include sledding with a hot chocolate treat afterwards, taking us to the movies to watch StarWars, summer picnics, family gatherings with his famous ghost stories (he was such a great story teller), the time he took out of his busy work schedule to come to my grade school with his collection of rocks and minerals (I was the most popular guy for weeks because my classmates all knew he was my uncle), the many, many trips driving to Canada, and for playing rough with us, where he’d get on the ground in wrestling position and he’d wrestle all 5 boys at one time).  My first taste and experience of a White Castle cheeseburger was with Uncle Art and his sons.  I have so many happy and fond memories with him and he will be missed. I have comfort in knowing that he is celebrating in heaven together with all of our deceased loved ones. Thank you Uncle Art for the impact you have made on my life. We love you. Rest peacefully!
