Ben Matthew Mallinger passed away unexpectedly on March 25th in San Diego. He is survived by his daughter Leigh Ann Mallinger, parents Kathleen and Allan Mallinger, brothers Jesse and Noah Mallinger, niece Natalie Bultema, and sisters-in-law Adrian and Kendall Mallinger.
A native San Diegan, Ben attended Spreckels Elementary and Standley Junior High School, and graduated from University City High School in 1993. He attended the University of California, Davis, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural and Managerial Economics. While there, he played on the Men’s Rugby Club and was an active member of the Zeta Psi Fraternity.
After college, Ben proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. Upon graduating from boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, he received the Physical Excellence Award.
Ben went on to build a successful 20-year career as a financial advisor. As in every aspect of his life, he lived by strong ethical principles—doing the “right thing,” working hard, and maintaining a positive attitude. He treated each and every client like a friend.
That same spirit extended far beyond his work. Ben approached every interaction with kindness and consideration, and he had a natural way of turning them into lasting friendships.
Ben loved his family more than anything, but the Padres were a close second.
Though not a coach, Ben was a fixture at every practice or game of Leigh Ann’s, cheering her on with his signature (sometimes embarrassingly loud) enthusiasm. He adored his daughter and gave his wholehearted support in every facet of her life.
His family will miss him terribly.
Friends of Ben are being received on Friday the 24th at Soledad Club from 5-8pm.
