

The book of life opened for Benjamin Edward Flournoy on March 12, 1935 to Viola and Date Hollis Flournoy. Ben was the fourth of nine children. He received his formal education at Valley Springs School in Minden, Louisiana. He received Christ at an early age at the Valley Springs Baptist Church. Ben moved to San Diego, California in 1950, obtaining employment in the Civil Service Industry at North Island, where he subsequently retired. Also during this time Ben met and married Shirley Foster. To this union were born five children: Benjamin Flournoy, Jr., Darlene Flournoy, Lester Flournoy, Juanita Flournoy and Alice Faye Flournoy all of San Diego, California; one other son Donald Flournoy of Minden, Louisiana. Ben was known for his smile, he was always smiling; as a matter of fact, his parents used to tell a joke about his smiling when he was born. Ben was a loving husband and father. He was known for the love he showed to others.
Preceding him in death were his parents Viola and Date, his wife Shirley, daughter Darlene, sister Ethel Barnes, three brothers Henry, Roger and Andrew Flournoy, nephew Stephen McClendon, Jr. and great niece Keimoni Thompson.
The book of life closed for Benjamin E. Flournoy on October 19, 2013 at the age of 78. He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Juanita and Alice Faye; two sons, Ben Jr. and Lester; one sister, Christene (Gaither) Watkins of Douglasville, Georgia; three brothers, Hodge (Ina) Flournoy, Hardis and Albert (Linda), all of Minden, Louisiana; a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
