Beverly (Bennett) Hinkle was born to Delmer and Janet Bennett on January 26th, 1937, in Boone, Iowa. She graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit, Michigan, in 1955. Just two years out of school in 1957, she married Wesley Hinkle. Together, they started their lives in Wes's final semester at Michigan State University in Lansing, Michigan. Following graduation, Bev accompanied Wes to the Marine Corps base in Quantico, Virginia, as she embarked on a lifelong journey as a proud supporter of Wes and a passionate contributor to the mission of the US Marine Corps.
In Virginia, son Scott Hinkle was the firstborn child of the new family. Son Steve Hinkle and daughter Lisa (Hinkle) Abrantes were born in California as Wes completed his active duty assignment at Camp Pendleton in north San Diego County. In 1968, Bev and Wes moved south to the city and continued raising the family in the neighborhoods of San Carlos and later Del Cerro.
Bev's love and encouragement for her husband and children were vital to the family. They extended beyond the family to groups, including Alvarado Pop Warner football and San Carlos Little League baseball, where she served as a beloved team mother and cheerleader for her kids. Her love of sports started with her father at Detroit Red Wings hockey games and continued for years as an avid San Diego Chargers and Padres baseball club fan. Her zest for travel around the world was infectious. The time she spent abroad with Wes and her friends was some of the most memorable in her life.
Bev was comfortable and confident in nearly every social situation and was an indispensable partner to Wes as they navigated the challenges of running the family-owned business, San Diego Volvo, over many decades. Bev's warmth and ease with all people were defining qualities of her character that touched the hearts of many she loved and who loved her in return.
She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Wes Hinkle, son Scott Hinkle, daughter-in-law Eliana Hinkle, grandson Nathan Hinkle, son Steve Hinkle, daughter-in-law Tricia Hinkle, granddaughter Vanessa Hinkle, grandson Branden Hinkle, granddaughter Lillian Hinkle, daughter Lisa Abrantes, son-in-law Steve Abrantes, and grandson Joshua Abrantes. Bev will be greatly missed by her family and all who entered her life and whose lives were touched by her spirit.
