Grandfather to Kristen (Day) Mullin, Jacob Day and Nicholas Day passed away peacefully
in his sleep on April 21, 2013 due to medical compilcations stemming from a recent
stroke. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio on May 22, 1932, he was the son of Daniel Tucker Day
and Katie (O’Dwyer) Day. He is survived by 2 siblings, Mildred Mulvaney and James Day
of Cincinnati, Ohio. He served proudly in the Korean War returning to Cincinnati to raise
his family, nurture his granddaughter Kristen and become a loving and wonderful role
model for his children, grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and countless friends.
After moving to California in 1996 to assist his son in raising Jacob and Nicholas, “Pappy”
became a constant in the North County communities of San Diego. He was often seen
with his grandsons on the little league field and at the skate park, working out at the
YMCA and worshiping at Pacific View Baptist Church in Encinitas, California with his
significant other Joan Schindler.
Pappy was a man of strong principles, immense dignity, great kindness, unlimited
patience and high morals; one who chose to lead by example. He was loved and
respected by many and although he will be missed by all who knew him, I am confident
that his spirit remains in each one of us.
A memorial service will be held in his honor on May 6th, 2013 at 11:30 AM at Fort
Rosecrans National Cemetery Located at 1800 Cabrillo Memorial Dr. San Diego, CA
