Connie Sue Gilbert

She graced this world with her presence until her peaceful departure, August 31, 2025, in Vista California after her brave battle with lung cancer.

Connie was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era.

Soon after her service, she met her forever person, Charles Gilbert. Their relationship was built with dedication, commitment, partnership and support, filled with laughter and fifty-five years of cherished memories. They grew their family, which became the cornerstone of Connie’s life.

Connie became a school bus driver for the San Marcos Unified School district for over two decades, touching the lives of countless special education students with her caring nature. She wasn’t just the bus driver; she was a safe haven for many. Her kindness, genuine gift of loving and accepting her students left an indelible mark on her community.

Connie found joy in gardening, nurturing the earth, watching the beauty of nature bloom around her. She was a huge softy when it came to animals in need, bringing home a random poor soul here and there through the years, where she’d love and give them a forever home. She enjoyed the thrill of the casino, often sharing stories of her adventures with family and friends.

However, it was her family she adored most. Connie’s loving and caring nature shone brightly in her relationships. Her genuine and honest spirit created a warm atmosphere for all who were fortunate enough to be in her presence and her spicy personality and quick wit kept us on our toes.

She survived by her devoted husband, her two children Tammy and Chip, her grand children Amanda, Marina, Mason, her great grandchildren Aaronn, Mattis, Makoa and Kane and her brother Neal.

Connie Sue Gilbert will be remembered for her service to our country, her dedication to her family and the legacy of love and light she brought into the lives of many.

She was laid to rest October 7th, 2025, in private ceremony with Marine Corps honors at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego.
