

Cynthia Shallenberger Diller passed away on December 9, after a valiant 51 year fight against the effects of a devastating cerebral aneurysm. She lived life with great courage and was very resolute in her determination to make it a good one despite her limitations.
Cynthia was born in Jamestown, California, near her first home in Angels Camp in the California gold country to Dr. S. Andre Shallenberger and Catherine Monte Verda Shallenberger. The family subsequently moved to Stockton, California, and later to San Diego. She attended Dana Junior High and was graduated from Point Loma High School in 1960.
While attending San Diego State, she met her husband Paul A. Diller and they were married on January 26, 1962, in the chapel of the Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church. They lived in San Diego until 1969 when they moved to Escondido to raise three daughters in a large house on a avocado grove. They built a pool and life was good.
In 1971 disaster struck in the form of the aneurysm. After surgery she began the long arduous process of rehabilitation. Her three daughters were an immense help in running the household during that time. Despite permanent physical and mental limitations, she was able to resume a somewhat normal life. She showed great courage throughout. She lived a life of service to others. Over the years she was a volunteer for Girl Scouts, Hospice Uplift (Kids at Heart), as she used to say, "they can't tell that anything's wrong with me."
After Paul's career moves to the central coast of California and later to Satellite Beach, Florida, they returned to San Diego retirement and lived in South MIssion Beach for 15 years. Later they moved to Coronado. Cynthia was an active member of Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church and especially enjoyed doing flower arrangements for worship services.
Cynthia is survived by her husband of 61 years, Paul, and by three daughters Keri Brookshire-Herron (husband Jim) of Klamath Falls Oregon; Leslie Warner of Murrieta, California; and Karen Wood (husband John) of Coronado. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, Kristopher Brookshire, Lauren Saincome, Molly Warner, Curtis Warner, Kristiana Wood, and Jack Wood, along with one great grandchild Slone Brookshire. She is additionally survived by her sister Laurie Isham, and brother Donn Shallenberger. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church at 11:00am on Tuesday, December 27, 2022.
