Daniel was the second child born to Gilman and Anna Welch on September 17, 1945, in Arizona. At the age of 5, his family moved to Humboldt County.
His high school classmates described him as relaxed, kick-back, good listener, and gentle. These character traits remained with him throughout his life. Upon graduating from high school, he proudly served 6 years in the Navy. Following the completion of his military service, he pursued a career as an electrician and in real estate. During this time, he relocated to San Diego where he lived the remainder of his life.
He married Maricela in 1983 and had three daughters. Although they divorced after 14 years of marriage, they stayed lifelong friends and were the best co-parents.
Daniel was known for his boundless curiosity, love for old cars, and learning about history. He stayed active by building and fixing things around the house. He loved getting to know those around him and approached life with enthusiasm and kindness.
He is survived by his four beloved daughters- Belinda Ayson, Jessica Romero, Pamela Tran, and Melissa Welch- his six cherished grandchildren, and two siblings, who will carry on his memory with love and admiration.
Daniel was kind, tender-hearted, and friendly. He was easy to be around and his open nature brought people together. His passion for knowledge was inspiring to everyone who knew him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the kindness he shared and the joy he brought into the loves of those he touched.
