Eapen George

From his earliest days, Eapen was a model for overcoming adversity. After a polio diagnosis at age 3, he overcame the immense challenge of relearning to walk, eventually graduating 2 years earlier than his peers. This hard-working, determined nature allowed him to achieve far more than the average person. As the only son, he took responsibility for not just his 4 sisters, but their extended family as well, fulfilling his mother's last wishes after she passed away when he was just 19 years old.

Eapen and his wife Susan lived in India, Australia, Dallas, and San Diego. He traveled to more than 100 countries, but perhaps his favorite family trip was a historical tour of Italy he took with Susan and his kids, George and Mariam. He was also a beloved grandfather to Theodore, Gabriel, Emerson, Carissa, and Nathan.

He was a food and wine connoisseur who not only invented region-specific flavors for Lays Potato Chips, Quaker Oats, and Doritos, but was known by staff of any restaurant he frequented, often buying them Christmas gifts and teaching specialized brewing methods to baristas at his favorite coffee shop, Peet’s. He loved being a part of the Point Loma neighborhood, Shadow Mountain Community Church, and a member of the San Diego Yacht Club.

A lifelong learner, in retirement he founded Round Feather: a company focused on Design for Happiness with an international team he affectionately called his “Feathers.” He loved yoga and pilates, learned to swim for the first time at 67, and was known to do an unassisted headstand even into his late 60s. His zest for life and positive outlook was an inspiration to us all.

One of Eapen's consistent expressions of generosity was to educate and empower children from impoverished backgrounds to be equipped with tools for the future.
