I ATTENDED  GEORGE j. WEST JR. HIGH SCHOOL AND MT. PLEASANT HIGH SCHOOL WITH NEDDY.  IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY HIS DAD TAUGHT AT HOPE HIGH SCHOOL. NEDDY WAS A CLOSE DEAR FRIEND THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL.  IT WAS ONLY RECENTLY I LEARNED OF HIS PASSING.  HE WAS A GREAT KID.  I ATTENDED COLLEGE IN BOSTON AND UNFORTUNATELY  WE NEVER HOOKED AGAIN.   THANK YOU

Ned and I shared tennis, golf and family holidays with the Curry clan for many years.  Next to Boston sports, golf was almost a religion for Ned.  Ned knew all the rules of golf by heart.  When he was on the greens committee, the fairways glistened.  After each shot, Ned meticulously wiped the head of the club he had just used with a towel, and replaced it in its appointed slot.  The bag was strapped in just underneath the faux license plate that read "September 11, 2001 Our Loss Will Not Be Forgotten" that hung from the top of Ned's immaculate shining cinnamon red golf cart.  Be with the angels, Patriot!  We miss you!

CUNNINGHAM, Edward Hugh “Ned”
July 2, 1939 – August 30, 2019
 
     Edward “Ned” Hugh Cunningham, of San Diego, CA, passed away on August 30th, after a courageous year and a half long battle with lung cancer.
     Ned was born in Providence, the son of Edward and Dorothy (McMahon). He was raised on Mission Place in Mount Pleasant with his older sister, Paula. Ned played hockey, basketball and baseball throughout his childhood and teenage years, graduated from Mt Pleasant High School, and attended the University of Rhode Island, to play basketball on an ROTC scholarship. At URI, he was also a member of the Phi Mu Delta Fraternity.
     After college graduation, Ned served in the US Army in San Francisco, CA. When he returned home to Providence, Ned landed a job with Allendale Insurance Company (now FM Global) and moved to Southern California, where he worked, coached his boys, and played golf and tennis until he retired. Through tennis, Ned created everlasting friendships. In retirement, he moved to Palm Desert, lived on a golf course, played golf, and established new long-lasting friendships.
     Ned was the proud father of Kevin (Suzan) of Newbury Park, CA and Kyle (Danielle) of San Diego, CA. He was the loving grandfather of Katherine, Kamille, and Brittnie. 
     Ned is survived by his wife Bonnie of Totowa, NJ, sons, granddaughters, and his nieces/nephews - Michelle, Paul, Charles, James, and Nicole.
     Special thanks to the amazing staffs at UCSD Health Moores Cancer Center – La Jolla, La Vida Del Mar Senior Community, and Apreva Hospice, who provided fantastic, compassionate care to Ned.
     To honor Ned, Celebrations of Life will be held in the future in Thousand Oaks, CA and with family in RI. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Fund # 6764- Lung Cancer Precision Oncology Research at the UCSD Health Moores Cancer Center.

Ned, you have been part of our family since 1968 when you and my late father, Joe Curry, transferred out to California from the East Coast. Our families celebrated many wonderful holidays together. I particularly remember Thanksgiving holidays when you would bring over bottles of the champagne with the pink foil.  So many happy memories!  Thank you for being a dear friend in the strange new land of California. It was comforting to have another New Englander in our lives as well as another Patriots fan!  Love, Carol

It was with sorrow that I learned of the passing of my friend, Nedley.  We were both ex Rhode Islanders, transplanted to Los Angeles where we worked together for 25 years.  More importantly,  we became personal friends as well.  Thank God for Ned's patience as I went through my golf learning curve!  He and Bonnie were a perfect match, complimenting each other in many ways.
Rest in peace, my friend.  Continue to hit them long and straight!
