Engracia was born on April 20,1942 in Botolan Zambales, Philippines to Gregorio
Magsanop and Visitacion Devera. She graduated from Santa Isabel College in Manila
with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, majoring in English Language.
She married Isaias Tamayo, a jeepney driver at that time, when they first met and she
was teaching Mt. Carmel High School Zambales. It was love at first sight for our Dad.
During her rookie years of teaching our Isaias “Tany” continued to court Elit until they
married on October 26, 1963. Over the next 21 years she gave birth to 9 Children, 5
girls and 4 boys. Like the strong woman she was, she taught her children to be resilient,
the importance of education and working hard to get what you want in life.
Her children remember her as kind but with a fierce nature. She never hesitated to
speak up when someone was being unkind. She carried a natural warmth and cared for
her children with deep love and unwavering devotion.
Engracia was accomplished as a teacher in Zambales for over 25 years before moving
to America in 1990. She was passionate about cooking, knitting and crocheting. She
was a devout Catholic and enjoyed attending mass on Sundays.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
A viewing is scheduled for Thursday 2/12 and Friday 2/13 from 5pm-9pm. Celebration
of Life and Burial on 2/14 from 11am-1pm with a reception to follow.
The family would like to thank all her caregivers, hospital staff and everyone who had a
hand in her care over the years. We are extremely grateful to have such loving support
and prayers as we say our final goodbyes to our beloved Mother.
