On Monday, April 25, 2016, Evangelina Labrador Borromeo passed away peacefully in her sleep while at her home in Oceanside, California surrounded by her loved ones. After being blessed with 90 years on this earth, she has been called home to God. Evangelina, or Eva for short, was born on October 19, 1925 in San Narcisco, Zambales, Philippines to Ignacio and Emelia Labrador. She is the third of six children. At age 24 she was married to Valeriano (Val) Espiritu Borromeo (b. Dec. 19, 1921 – d. Nov. 21, 2012). Together they had two children, their first born daughter Loida and their son Elmer. She is survived by her daughter Loida Aguas, son Elmer and daughter-in-law Marian Borromeo. She also leaves behind four grand-daughters; Sheila Aguas, Anna Liza Saison and her husband Anthony, Giselle Sa and her husband Steven and youngest grandchild Charlene Borromeo. In addition, she is survived by five great-grandchildren, Francene and Vladimir Ivan Villanueva; Anna Louisa, Anna Bella and Nathaniel Saison. After graduating High School, she completed Elementary Teaching Course to help reopen schools after the Philippines was liberated from the Japanese in World War II. She was a homemaker and house wife while utilizing her spare time as a seamstress to sew dresses for friends and family. At age 56, she and her husband immigrated to the United States with the help of their son Elmer and resided in San Diego, California. She helped raise her grandchildren by walking them to school and watching over them while their parents worked. She managed to help her daughter Loida and her grandchildren in the Philippines until they too immigrated to the United States. She was an active member of the SVA (Senior Volunteers Association) and a social butterfly. She participated in weekend activities such as social dancing and picnics. She enjoyed playing piano and mahjong. In 2009, her and her husband celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary with all of their family and friends. After the passing of her husband in 2012, she continued to live out her days with her son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter. She took a lovely vacation to the Philippines in 2013 where she was able to see her hometown one last time. Eva shortly participated in social gatherings but became tired and rather enjoyed her time at home around family and loved ones. The family gathered one last time to celebrate her 90th birthday in October 2015. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her celebration of life will be held at El Camino Memorial Park, 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd, San Diego, CA 92121. Visitation is on Friday, May 6th from 4 - 8pm with a rosary service from 6-6:30pm. Funeral Services will be held the following day, Saturday, May 7th at 10am.
