Gary Alan Loudermilk, 69, of Point Loma, California passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025 after a hard fought battle with Cancer and kidney disease.
Gary was born on Sept 2, 1955 on Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada. His father, Henry Loudermilk, was enlisted in the Navy and eventually transferred to San Diego when Gary was a small boy. Gary's mother Kathryn Goertz passed away when he was a teenager. Eventually Henry was remarried to Julia, who became a loving stepmother to Gary.
Gary graduated from Patrick Henry High School, then attended Mesa College before becoming a commercial glass contractor. He moved on to work for the San Diego Unified School District as a custodian while attending SDSU to obtain his Bachelors’ degree.
Gary and Susan met in 1996 and were married in 2001. With Susan he had an instant family of children and grandchildren, all of whom adored him.
While Gary thoroughly enjoyed reporting to work every day, he eventually retired in 2023. He worked over 20 years as a maintenance program assistant for the San Diego Unified School District where he fostered many wonderful friendships. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends, camping and tinkering around his garage.
Gary had a unique sense of humor and an enormous heart. He was generous and loyal to his close circle of family and friends. As an avid outdoorsman Gary was most happy camping or fishing and just being outdoors. He was a delight to camp with as his arsenal of camping gear was extensive and he always came prepared and ready to share!
He is lovingly remembered as Papa, Gar, Grandpa Gary, Rizzo and G-man to his family and friends. And he was an amazing ‘Dog Dad’ to Cookie and Macie.
Gary was predeceased by his father Henry Loudermilk, his mother Kathryn Goertz and stepmother Julia Loudermilk. He is survived by his loving wife Susan Loudermilk, his stepson Bret Bradanini and wife Helen, stepdaughter Wendy Bradanini and his four grandchildren Daisy, Cruz, Bailey and Cassidy.
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later time.
