

George Alberto Silva passed away at home on June 2, 2012. George and his family immigrated to San Diego from the Island of Pico in the Azores in 1961 when he was five years old. He graduated from St. Agnes Elementary School and St. Augustine High School. He earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Business and Economics as well as a Juris Doctorate from the University of San Diego. He was a practicing attorney and a real estate broker and a “Man of Honor who was True to his Word”.
George was dedicated to his Portuguese heritage and to the Point Loma community. He served five years as treasurer of the United Portuguese Society of the Holy Spirit (U.P.S.E.S.) and served as President of the Azorean Alliance, Cabrillo Festival and the Portuguese American League. He was a member of Santo Amaro, the Peninsula Lions Club and the Honorary Deputy Sheriffs’ Association as well as a strong supporter of law enforcement.
George is survived by his loving wife Denise, his best friend of 27 years; his brother Manuel Edward (Audia) of Pico, Azores, his nephew Michael (Kristen) of San Diego, niece Karen (Amilcar) of Pico, Azores along with five grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maria Branca and Manuel Jorge Silva and sister-in-law, Elvira Silva of Pico, Azores.
Visitation will be held at Beardsley Mitchell Funeral Home on Monday, June 11th from 5PM to 8PM with the recitation of the Rosary at 7PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, June 12th at 10AM at Saint Agnes Catholic Church in Point Loma at 1140 Evergreen St. with internment following at Holy Cross Cemetery.
