

Wally Meads was born in Benton, Illinois on July 7, 1935 to Giles W. Meads and Pearl (Dunn) Meads. He and his family, including older brother Richard, moved to San Diego in 1938 and settled in Mission Hills. Wally attended Grant Elementary, Roosevelt Junior High, San Diego High School and San Diego State. He also served in the special services of the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Recently, Wally served on the planning committee for San Diego High School’s 60th Reunion.
Wally Meads was a talented communicator and marketer. He began his career in radio as a disc jockey at KDEO. He also worked in radio sales and then joined his brother Dick’s advertising agency, Knoth & Meads, as an account executive. While with the agency, Wally worked with a variety of clients but had a special passion for real estate. He managed US Financial’s advertising and was later offered a position as marketing director with this national developer.
This began a lifelong career in real estate development. Wally held positions with Levitt Homes and Republic Homes before branching out on his own to found Cimarron Homes in Northern California. Between Cimarron and a second company, The Meads Group, Wally built over 2,000 homes in California and Texas.
Wally will be remembered for his keen sense of humor, positive attitude and love of family. He also had a passion for snow skiing, boating, fishing and owned a home in Lake Tahoe. Wally also had a love of horses and showed Quarter Horses and Paint Horses for over 10 years.
He is survived by his wife, Julie; brother, Dick Meads; daughter, Carlene Wilkie (Don); son Jeff Meads, three grandchildren (Brittney, Travis and Cameron), two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
