Gina was born on December 11, 1960, in Manila, Philippines to Jose and Pilar Barredo. She was the youngest of seven children. She attended Gregoria De Jesus Elementary School and Florentino Torres High School. She achieved a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting at the University of the East in Manila, Philippines. After college, Gina worked as an Accounting Assistant / Sales Representative and was quickly promoted to Sales Manager. She worked within the telecommunications industry for the next 10 years in Manila, Philippines.
Gina met Brian Chapman and the two were married in October of 1991 in the city of Makati, Metro-Manila, Philippines. Gina took a break from her career and immigrated to California to be with her husband and family. She took a brief hiatus from working to raise her two children. She was a constant cheerleader for her children, supporting all of their activities like Little League & marching band, attending every possible event she could. In 2002 she returned to work with a career change to mortgage loan processing until her health impacted her ability to work in 2018. She kept in touch with several good friends that she made through college, her career, and with those at the dialysis clinic that cared for her.
Gina loved so much in life. Her favorite destination was Disneyland, visiting many times over her life to make good memories with family and eat good food (a recent favorite of hers was the Ronto Wrap). She also enjoyed trying new restaurants and bakeries. They would always give her ideas for new dinner recipes for her to cook for family. She also shared a love for music, enjoying modern American pop, Gary Valenciano, and Kenny G among many others. Gina was also well-known for her love of elephants, particularly the symbolism of those with their trunks pointed upwards as a representation of good fortune. She accumulated an impressive collection and decorated the house with them.
Above all, Gina loved spending time with family and friends. Her whole life she was excited to host large parties and create an enjoyable atmosphere for everyone. Her thoughtfulness shined the most at these times, where she always considered the needs of everyone through food, gifts, or activities. She is remembered as a generous auntie who loved to spoil her little pamangkin (nephews). She taught her nieces independence and bravery, forever fearless especially in the face of her health troubles. As a mother, she was a strong advocate for education, supplementing her children’s public learning with schooling at home and volunteering constantly at school and Faith Formation.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jose and Pilar Barredo along with her brothers Jose Raul Barredo (Boy), Eugenio Barredo (Gene) and Virgilio Barredo (Gil). She is survived by her loving husband of thirty-two years, Brian, and her two children Jeric and Jeremy. She is also survived by her three sisters, Maria Luisa Armado (Malu), Zenaida Badiola (Zeny) and Maria Gilda Christina Guieb (Gilda).
Gina was an amazing wife, mother, daughter, and sister. She lived a life of strength and giving behind the singular belief that God & family are all one needs to confront life’s challenges. She is loved and missed dearly.
