Mom, you and Dad were our guides in life.  You two nurtured and encouraged us to do our best, and to be kind and considerate to others.  We sometimes fall short, but you never fell short with your support and undying love for us.  We love you, and we miss you.  We won't say goodbye, we'll just say "see you later."  Your boys forever:  John, Owen, and Joe.

Joe, John and Owen, your mother was a wonderful person whose presence here on earth enriched the lives of many who had the pleasure of knowing her.  Her life was long, full and filled with the love that her family and friends provided.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.  God bless you and God bless Grace.  I know she is walking the streets of God's kingdom with the same vigor and vitality she did here on earth.

Grace was a wonderful woman. Her upbeat spirit was an inspiration to all.  I enjoyed knowing her.  
When someone we love passes away their memory becomes a treasure, she is a treasure.

Grace was born in Berwind, WV to John and Jenny Owens.  She was one of eight children.  The family relocated to a grandmother's farm in N. Carolina when Grace was 11.  Grace received a four year college scholarship.  She split the scholarship with her sister Faye, and they both graduated from Lees-McRae College in 1941.  Grace was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.  After joining the NAVY WAVES during World War II, Grace was sent to the Bronx campus of Hunter College in New York City for basic training, and advanced supply training at the Women's College of Georgia in Milledgeville, Ga.  After training, she was assigned permanent duty in Norman, Ok., where she met her future husband, Ray Marvin, a sailor from Illinois.  Grace and Ray were married in Dallas, Tx in 1945 and eventually made their permanent home in National City, Ca.  Grace was discharged from the NAVY at the end of the war, while her husband Ray made the NAVY his career.  Besides traveling with her husband on many military assignments, Grace was constantly on the go with running a household, civic duties, sports, scouting (she was very proud of her Den Mother badge), and the active support of her husband and their three sons.  Grace was a lifelong lover of literature, music (she liked George Jones), and the camaraderie of good friends.  Many years ago Grace and her friend Dorothy Oldham started walking all around National City.  They walked so often they became a fixture.  Many strangers thought they knew the two walkers because they had seen them so often.  As much as Grace like walking with Dorothy, she especially liked, on a warm sunny day, to work that plot of land she and her husband Ray bought in 1949 over on 2nd street in National City, Ca.  Grace has finished her earthly walk and will again walk hand-in-hand with Ray for the rest of eternity.

Grace was a great friend, and I always enjoyed visiting with her and her sons.
She will be dearly missed by all that knew her.

I am saddened to hear of the loss of your beloved mother. Your commitment to her and the care you provided in her final months is commendable and extremely evident of the love and concern you had for her. Please be assured that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.

Heaven has gained a special angel with the passing of my mother-in-law.  She was a noble woman and greatly admired by all who came to know her. Our family has wonderful memories of this delightful woman.  She will be missed.
