October 14, 1936 – February 19, 2026
Ismael Azarcon Simbulan, a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026, at the age of 89.
Born on October 14, 1936, in Manila, Philippines, Ismael carried with him throughout his life the strength, positive attitude, and his deep faith in His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a man of quiet strength, joyful spirit, steady guidance, and unwavering love for his family.
Ismael shared 63 beautiful years of marriage with the love of his life, Corazon Simbulan. They immigrated from the Philippines to America in 1972 and together, built a life centered on faith, hard work, and commitment to raising their family the best they could in pursuit of the American dream.
He graduated from the University of Santo Thomas earning a degree in Pharmacy. He worked as a Pharmacist in Guam and later in San Diego, at times both day and night, to support his young family. He retired from the Navy Medical Center San Diego in 2000 to enjoy his grandchildren, dining out with his wife eating his favorite foods, strolling and being outdoors under the San Diego sunshine. He watched the news, history, and WW II & western cowboy movies, joking around and playing black jack with his grandkids (and he almost always won).
He also loved dancing and sharing stories to his grandkids about his life in the Philippines, living through World War II and their hero General MacArthur, stories of how he met his wife, how he was a great dancer and sang in a choir, and how they immigrated to America and the many miracles and opportunities God blessed them with.
Ismael is survived by his wife (Corazon) and five children (Sarah Jones, Ferdinand Simbulan, Vina Schierbeck, Arleen Krstic, and John Simbulan) and their spouses (Jeff Jones, Laura Simbulan, Richard Schierbeck, and Dragan Krstic). Nothing brought him greater joy than his family. Most importantly, he was a cherished grandfather to seven grandchildren (Jeffrey Jones, Joshua Jones, Jacob Simbulan, Michael Simbulan, RJ Schierbeck, Christina Schierbeck and Angelina Krstic), who will forever remember their Grandpa's humor, his cheerful attitude, his love for them, and most importantly, his love for God and country.
Ismael was preceded in death by his beloved parents Simeon and Victoria Simbulan, his brother Rudy Simbulan, and his firstborn son Dennis Simbulan, who died shortly after birth. Though he now joins them with their Heavenly Father in heaven, along with many other loved ones, his legacy lives on in the lives of his wife, children, grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Ismael will be remembered for his wisdom, his happy-go-lucky attitude, his fierce love for his wife and family, his deep faith in Christ, his quiet strength, and the deep sense of cherishing relationships. His presence was a source of joy, laughter and strength, and his memory will continue to guide and inspire those he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
