Jack was a man who was loved by all and who loved all. His wit, undeniable sense of humor and charm were just a few things that set him apart. He was a stranger to no one, greeting everyone with a great big smile and a warm compliment. He had a special way of connecting with people that left him without a foe in this world.
Jack was also a humble man with incredible talents, determination and success. Born on a small farm in Nebraska to a mother sick with lupus, Jack was just under 3 pounds and projected to die. Against all odds, his grandmother nursed him back to life in a shoe box with a heating lamp. In God's divine plan, Jack lived to the ripe old age of 85.
Throughout his life Jack was successful in nearly every endeavor because he gave it his all. This was evidenced by his valedictorian speech in college, his degree in chemistry from Pomona college, his career as a research chemist at JPL, his graduation with highest honors from USC school of Dentistry and on into his fulfilling 38 year career in private practice dentistry. Amazingly he never boasted in these accomplishments, instead used them to make a lasting impact on many as he urged others to do their best and work hard toward their goals in life.
Aside from academics, some of his favorite hobbies were golfing, water skiing and snow skiing with friends and family. His extreme love for flying cannot be forgotten earning him the nickname 'Flyin Jack' and the honorary title of 'The Flying Dentist' by the Progress Bulletin as he spent the last 15 years of his career commuting from his home in Coronado to his practice in Pomona.
Jack married his high school sweetheart, Bettye Dean Lollar, in Pomona, CA on April 1, 1951 and they were married 63 years. Jack lived out "for better or for worse" in his typical exemplary style as he wholeheartedly and faithfully nurtured Bettye Dean throughout the last 10 years of her Alzheimer's. Jack was also a loving and devoted father to Jon, Lori and Nancy, grandfather to Brandon, Briana, Chelsi, Kamerin, Keely, and great-grandfather to Caleb, Evangeline and Emily.
Aside from his irresistible personality and earthly accomplishments, Jack was first and foremost a man of God. He loved and served the Lord with all of his heart to the very end. He devoted much of his time to faithfully praying for all of his family and friends. He considered everything a loss compared to knowing Christ Jesus, his Lord and Savior. We praise God that Jack is in His Loving arms today.
