Jack was born in Corpus Christi, TX on Oct. 2, 1946, where his father, a Navy pilot, was stationed. His parents were Jack Dale Bartlett, Sr. and Charlotte Wells Bartlett.
Because of his dad's service, Jack and his family had the opportunity to live in and travel to numerous states and countries, but they always considered El Cajon, CA home base.
After graduating from El Cajon Valley High School, Jack enlisted in the Air Force where he began a life long career in law enforcement. From an AF Security Policeman, to a deputy on Kawajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands, to a San Diego Deputy Sheriff, and then a Special Fraud Investigator for SD County and then finally a Senior Special Investigator for the State of CA, his law enforcement career spanned 43 years. His specialty was in fake IDs and fraudulent documents. He shared his knowledge by teaching classes or providing seminars at community colleges, the SD Sheriff's Academy and other law enforcement agencies including the FBI.
Jack had a passion for reading and was rarely without a book or 3. He loved animals, especially the 6 Boxers he and his wife had over the years. He and his wife also enjoyed visiting Oahu, HI, where he had lived for 4 years.
Jack was known for his kindness and generosity, his wealth of knowledge, and his dry sense of humor. He also amazed others with his determination to live as long as possible after his cancer diagnosis. His oncologist called him a walking miracle for surviving over 4 years with AML when most people live for only 6 to 14 months.
Jack leaves behind many people who loved and respected him. They include his wife of nearly 52 years, Anna Bartlett; his daughter Ashley and son-in-law Edge Briscoe and Jens Briscoe, their son; a brother Randy Bartlett and niece Sierra Bartlett; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bill and Mickie Stewart; as well as several other nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces, and cousins.
Jack's son, Justin Dale Bartlett, lost his own battle with cancer just 11 weeks earlier.
A public memorial for Jack will be held at the El Cajon Mortuary at 684 So. Mollison Ave. in El Cajon, on Sunday, May 7, at 1 pm.
