Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle, Great Uncle, Friend and Community Supporter.
Jerry married Goldie Marie Cordle in 1953 and they worked together through all life’s ups and downs for almost 61 years. They raised 3 very independent children (Alan, Viki and Walter) who have all been successful building their own lives – but are still very attached to Jerry and Goldie as the foundation of their family. He is Grandpa to his 4 grandchildren - Amy and Jeff, Alan & Barbara’s children; and Alexandra and Nicole, Walter and Lorena’s kids.
Jerry was raised in the Columbus Ohio area. He was the youngest of 6 children (Lauretta, Gladys, Jean, Betty, Buddy, and Jerry) born to Walter and Rachel Wolman. That is where he started his family with Goldie. They moved out to “wild” California in 1958 with a ‘56 Oldsmobile pulling a small trailer with everything they owned.
Jerry worked in the Aircraft and Gas turbine industries for more than 30 years. He began his early adult life with short time in the Navy. He supported his family in the early days with a hotdog stand business, and worked selling shoes. He retired from Solar in 1985 after about 30 years. He continued working as a contractor with Solar after retiring as well. Before that he worked at North American Aircraft in Columbus.
He had been a tireless supporter of the San Altos elementary school for their PTA events and especially making the yearly Halloween Carnival a community and financial success. He also spent years supporting the Mount Miguel High School boosters and working at the football games. Jerry spent many years working with the Boy Scouts troop - the more troubled boys seemed to bond with him, feeding off of his strong guidance and no-nonsense direct approach.
Jerry had a certain style and approach that was all consuming and clearly hard for some to appreciate. When he knew what he wanted to do, there was only one way to get it done – “his way”! He was loved by those that knew him. He sometimes had a gruff exterior but the heart of a teddy bear inside. He would help anyone in need. He would fix whatever was broken, if he could. Most of the time when he was providing help, it included a “Dad” lecture on the proper way to get things done, and how to avoid an issue in the future.
The spouses of his children felt just as loved as if they were his own. That included advice and opinions good or bad and taken with the same respect and love in which they were dished out.
