John Dan Mack, also known as “Johnny Mack”, was born on July 25, 1927 to Inez and Buster Mack in East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana. Johnny accepted Christ as his savior early on in his life. As a young child, Johnny enjoyed the farm life working with his older brothers, Thomas and Joe, alongside their father where they were taught to have a strong work ethic. After high school, Johnny joined the United States Navy Academy. While in the Navy he was able to travel around the world, spending the majority of his time stationed overseas in Japan. While on his tour of duty, he fought in the Korean War. After serving his country, he was honorably discharged in the early 1950’s, at which time he chose to settle and start a new life in California.
Johnny married his childhood sweetheart Nettie. They settled and started life together in San Diego, CA. Soon after, Johnny started a career in masonry, after joining the cement masons and plasterers union. Johnny’s career as a masonry enabled him to further travel around the country. By 1958, a majority of his time was split between San Diego and Alaska where he worked as a superintendent on the Trans-Alaska pipeline project. Johnny had earned such a great reputation for quality masonry work; this promotion was a reflection of that, his strong work ethic, and leadership skills.
In the Mid 80’s, Johnny and Nettie decided to embrace a new chapter in their lives, taking the opportunity to enjoy life together on the road making beautiful memories. It was at this time that they purchased their first motorhome and joined a R.V club. As members of the R.V club, they traveled all over the country, camping and enjoying the great outdoors. These amazing experiences would span over the course of 30 years.
In the later part of Johnny's life he spent is time surrounded in love by family and friends. He enjoyed spending time in his recliner watching westerns on T.V., or spending time eating in his favorite restaurant “Anna’s Family restaurant”. On January 31, 2021, God called John D. Mack home to be reunited with his beloved wife Nettie, who preceded him in death in 2015. He leaves behind a host of nephews, nieces and friends who loved and will miss him dearly.
