It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear Jose Luis Vallada Rivera, age 47, of Chula Vista, California. Also known as Jholo to his family, relatives and friends, God called him home after a courageous battle with bile duct cancer on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, with his beloved wife, Zoe, by his side. Jholo was born in the Philippines, on June 21, 1976, to his late mother, Aida and father, Nestor. He immigrated to California, USA in 1997 and joined the US Navy where he served for several years. He attained his Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from the University of Phoenix and worked as a Program Manager.
Jholo loved life and lived his life to the fullest. He greatly enjoyed playing darts and golf, cruising around San Diego, playing in the casino, traveling with his family, and trying different foods from different restaurants. Jholo had such an amiable personality that he made friends wherever he went and left a huge impact on anyone he met. Keeping commitments to everyone he knows was of utmost importance and it manifested long-lasting relationships. One of them was so profound that it resulted in joining the Freemasonry Fraternity in 2006 in Japan. Jholo is an active member of Rising Sun Lodge 151, under the Grand Lodge of the Philippines.
He had an amazing sense of humor, was generous and kind. He remained positive regardless of circumstances and always saw the good attributes in people. He loved having family and friends over at his home. But above all, Jholo loved his wife, Zoe, and their sons Jathan and Johan. Jholo and Zoe met in 2001 and spent 22 wonderful years together. Jholo loved his family dearly. He was a wonderful husband and an amazing father. He loved taking his boys to their soccer games and karate lessons. He was a committed soccer fan to his boys. His love, guidance, dedication, and patience will always be missed and forever cherished.
Jholo is survived by his father, Nestor, Tita Elma, and his three siblings--Catherine, Nesjohn, Angelica, and son, Keith Charles. He has left behind sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, extended family, nieces, nephews, and cousins who will all miss him deeply.
In honor of Jholo, his family kindly request to wear white for his visitation and funeral.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.sorrentovalleychapel.com for the Rivera family.
