Dad, Opa, Joe was the best. He was kindhearted, caring, patient, a true gentleman and had a great sense of humor. His faith and his family were most important to him and he showed us that every single day. He always took care of us, and he was always there for us. Joe loved his daughter Chris and Chris was Joe's shadow growing up. Always by her father's side, from childhood to now. It was treasured time for both of them. Joe loved being Opa to Haley and Joseph and loved spending time with them any chance he could. He was so proud of who they are and he talked about them everywhere he went. He loved being a father-in-law to Pat and having a gin and tonic while having some good talks was always their thing.
Joe was born and raised in Michigan; the older brother to Gilbert. Joe served 6 years in the US Army as a Military Police Officer. He was stationed in Germany where he met and married Dell, his wife of 61 years. In 1964, he returned home to Michigan and began his civilian career with Metropolitan Life Insurance (MetLife) as a sales manager and worked his way to San Diego to take over a branch in East County. Once retired, he loved to woodwork and was known for his birdhouses and pieces of furniture he built. Joe and Dell loved traveling back to Germany and taking road trips throughout the United States.
He didn't always have it easy with things that came his way in life having battled bladder cancer in the 90's and Parkinson's Disease, but he never let it get him down. He was a fighter and fought the good fight until the end.
He passed away peacefully on Mother's Day with his family by his side. He will be so greatly missed, but we know he is finally at rest and reunited with Dell and his daughter, Tracy.
