With heavy hearts, we are saying goodbye to Joyce Lynn Naisbitt, a truly kind and caring soul who made a big impact on all who knew her. Joyce was born in Soledad, California, on February 11, 1949. She peacefully passed away at her home in Granite Bay, California, at the age of 74, surrounded by her son, daughter, and loved ones. Joyce was all about family. She was an amazing wife, mom, sister, grandma, and great-grandma, and her absence leaves a big hole in our lives.
Joyce is survived by her husband Val, her son Michael May and his partner Tasaday Lewis; and two sweet granddaughters Audrey and Ruby. She is also survived by her daughter Shawn Peterson, her husband Jeff Peterson; granddaughter Marin Modiste, her husband Kendall Modiste, and great-grandson Mackenzie. Joyce also leaves behind her Madrid family, including four brothers, five sisters, and many nieces and nephews. Joyce's legacy of love, kindness, and generosity is something we'll always treasure.
Her loving parents, Tomas Borga Madrid and Wilma Jean Madrid predeceased her.
Joyce devoted 29 years of her working life to the State of California, at the Contractor State License Board. She wore many hats during her career, eventually becoming the Executive Assistant to the Registrar of Contractors. Her dedication was unwavering, and she was known for her loyalty, smarts, and strong work ethic. Everyone respected her including Board staff, state legislators, industry folks, and everyday Californians. When she retired, she even received a special shout-out from the California Legislature for her outstanding service to the state.
Joyce enjoyed sports especially tennis, volleyball, racquetball, and yes, pickleball. She was a star on the court racking up awards and honors. However, what she really cared about was having fun and forming lasting friendships. We will definitely miss her competitive spirit.
Above all, Joyce was the ultimate mom. She showered her family with love, kindness and generosity. Her presence made all of us feel loved and cared for.
As we deal with the loss of this wonderful woman, we take comfort in knowing that Joyce's spirit will live on in our hearts and in the lives of those she touched.
Rest in peace, dear Joyce.
