

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Kathryn (Kathy) Mellos Mahoney, who was taken from us too soon on June 8, 2024 at the age of 51 in San Diego, California. She brought immeasurable joy and light into all the lives she touched with her kind heart, radiant smile, and amazing sense of humor.
Kathy was born in San Diego, CA to Sam Mellos and Georgia Gontika. She graduated from Mission Bay High School in 1991 and went on to get a Bachelors degree in English from SDSU and a Masters in Educational Technology from National. She spent 22 years working as a Technical Writer and as a Director of Technical Publications at Fair Isaacs Corporation. She retired in 2019 to pursue her passions in story writing, public speaking (2017 Toastmasters District 5 champion), karaoke, cooking, knitting, gardening and watching sunsets.
Kathy found beauty in life’s simple moments and encouraged us all to do the same. She had many diverse friends and deep relationships. She was the life of the party and was loved by many. She was a woman of immense humor and wisdom and cherished every moment spent with her loved ones. Her biggest passion was for her two boys which could be witnessed at every baseball, basketball and track meet event.
One of Kathy's favorite places was Magouliana, a small village in southern Greece and the birthplace of her mother. It was a peaceful place where she could relax, read books and gather with her large Greek family and friends.
Kathy was a dedicated mother, daughter, sister, cousin and friend who would do anything for anyone. In her final moments she was surrounded by her loving family and friends. She is survived by her sons Jason and Nikitas who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
A visitation for Kathy will be held Monday, June 17, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at El Camino Memorial Chapel, 5600 Carroll Canyon Road, San Diego, CA 92121. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, 3655 Park Blvd., San Diego, CA 92103. A graveside service will occur Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 12:30 PM at El Camino Memorial Park, 5600 Carroll Canyon Road, San Diego, CA 92121. Flowers may be sent to El Camino Memorial Chapel.
