Katrina May Andrews, aged 54, passed away on July 26, 2025. She was born on November 20, 1970. Katrina was a resident of Escondido, California. Taken too soon by breast cancer, she is survived by her husband, three children, four cats, and a literal global army of friends and family.
But none of those facts tell you anything about her. And, more importantly, love and whimsy disobey time.
It does not matter when or where you are reading this. You are here. And she loves you. She is survived. And she will always shine on.
So many people she met gained a little more light because it came from her.
From a young age, she constantly rebelled against an increasingly more cynical world. She firmly believed in love and fun as inalienable rights. And she made sure she was going to have them…and so was everyone around her. And she never changed.
In high school, she was part of the school choir and theater productions. In college, she designed jewelry crafting silver into art.
She found the wonderful, loving, stealth geek husband she was wishing for, and they had the three kids she dreamt about.
As one, they were at Faire, they were at Disneyland, at Comicon, they were constantly surrounding themselves and others with music and movies and art and joy. And growing older never ever meant giving up on fun and wonder.
A family who truly loved and treasured each other. What a legacy, to send love out into the world that truly makes it a kinder and more accepting place.
She will always be our water fairy, the gurgling laughter of the brook. She is eternal.
As an electric spark, she dances against the darkness with allies untold.
And she shatters the night eternal to make sure the sun shines. Like clockwork. But maybe just a little later than usual on some days.
And she is everywhere.
She is that ray of sunshine dancing in a field sparkling amongst the grass.
She is a ghost in the machine. She is online. You are looking at her now.
She is beside you. She is always in the crowd. Every crowd. Near the back. Or up front just out of view.
You will see her in TV screens. She is in books and songs and art and dreams. She is in your photos.
She hated traffic. You will only see her in the reflection of green lights.
She hated hospitals. You likely won’t ever see her there…unless you need her more than anything.
She is amongst the stars. She sings in bird calls. She dances with butterflies. She walks with big cats. She is deep in the ocean. She dances upon the sand.
You won’t see her in spider webs. You won’t see her with spiders. Except maybe the Marvel kind.
You won’t see her with snakes. You will spot her with lizards. But only if you squint.
She adored bats. You can hear her in their chirp and slinking with Vampires and Creatures of the night.
And crows! She is among that giant wash of crows that just drifted by. She could be that falcon. It is hard to tell.
She is in the clouds.
She is in the shadows.
She is in the shake and tremor of planes and helicopters.
She just flipped off that big truck that drove by too fast.
She is whimsy. And she is joy. She is your biggest ally.
Katrina is eternal. And she is everywhere, all at once. Like she always was. And always will be.
In her honor, do something amazing today and all the tomorrows to come. And think of her when you find joy and whimsy.
She will always be with us. She is in your eyes and smiles.
May she now be more powerful than we could possibly imagine.
What is grief, if not love persevering?
