Kay Tong Fung (馮唐玉葵) was born on August 15, 1925, in Gai San Village, Canton, China. She came to the U.S. as a teenager in 1940. Her immediate family consists of a stepmother, two sisters, and two brothers. Kay lived in San Francisco for 10 years and graduated from Galileo High School. She became a licensed cosmetologist after graduating from the Don Lux Beauty School.
In 1950, she moved to San Diego, California, with her husband, the Rev. Dr. Robert Fung, to share a ministry at the Chinese Community Church (UCC) from 1950-1957. When her husband went into public school teaching, Kay continued to be active at the Chinese Community Church, serving as president of the Ladies’ Guild and as the kindergarten teacher of that church for many years.
Kay worked in various capacities in the electronics field until her retirement in 1984. Since then, she and her husband have lived in their home in China at various times.
Kay loved people, especially little kids. Her care and concern for children were demonstrated in the fact that she and Dr. Fung contributed a sum of money that they had saved for many years toward building a new kindergarten school in her village in China in 1990.
Her leisure time activities included: sewing, traveling, singing hymns, and listening to religious programs on the radio.
Kay enjoyed life, and her daily motto is that God will help her to share the abundant life that the Lord has given her with others. Furthermore, her prayer is that she might be a blessing to everyone with whom she comes in contact, sees, and talks to every day.
