Kevin Patrick Larrick, 70, passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at his home in Ocean Beach, California.
Kevin was born on July 16, 1951, to John Patrick and Catherine Gloria Larrick (nee Kelly) in Oceanside, New York. He was the 3rd child (Irish triplets) in a family of 6 children raised in suburban Levittown, Long Island, New York. He graduated in 1969 from Levittown Memorial High School. After graduating from Sullivan Community College he attended SUNY Brockport College where he graduated in 1973 with a BS in Biology. Kevin was a two star athlete and captain of both the soccer and lacrosse teams his senior year.
An avid scuba diver, Kevin spent the summer of 1973 in the Caribbean living the “Margarita Lifestyle” and enjoying daily dives, surfing and bonfires on the beach. In 1975 he and friends traveled across the United States. He eventually settled in San Diego, making it his home for the next 45 years.
In August 1981 he married Veronica Rose Stewart. They had 2 beautiful children together; Brian born in 1984 and Kelly in 1985. Kevin instilled in his children the value of working hard and being kind. He taught them to be disciplined, but to reward yourself at the end of the day, either with a good meal, a sunset or Kev’s favorite, a Jack on the rocks!
Kevin met his 2nd wife, Nanci Wisneski, on March 23, 1993, at Good Time Charlie’s in Pacific Beach. Nanci and Kevin were together for 28 happy years. They enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas, Atlantis in the Bahamas, Lake Tahoe, Utah, Seattle… But their favorite travel destination was to the east coast to spend time with family, Kevin’s in New York and Nanci’s in Pennsylvania. On September 5, 2015, Kevin and Nanci finally wed! It was a happy day with the groom beaming and his bride looking beautiful. Family and friends came in from all over the United States. While they never had children together, Nanci adored Kevin’s children and considered them her own. After Kevin suffered a debilitating stroke in 2004, Nanci became his full time caregiver. Kevin’s needs were Nanci’s #1 priority. While life changed as they knew it, they continued to travel, host parties … they enjoyed a full and vibrant life together. Nanci has lost her Sweetheart, but his memory lives on in her heart.
Kevin’s impeccable carpentry skills were passed down from his father and he established Kevin Larrick Construction. He took great pride in creating homeowners’ dreams. He designed and oversaw construction of his parents home in Point Loma with the hopes they would move to his beloved San Diego. Kevin was always the first person to jump in to help family and friends with their projects.
In 1995 Kevin partnered with his friend Joe Dimola and Nanci to open The Sandwich Nook. They took great pride in making east coast sandwiches for the west coast crowds. Their Italian Hero and Meatball Hero were customer favorites!
Kevin had a very out-going personality. He was a people person… he had more friends than you could count. He stayed close to his New York friends and made many more friends in California. He was a great cook and loved to have family and friends over for a BBQ. His 4th of July parties on the beach were anticipated and loved by all!
One of Kevin’s favorite pastimes was playing chess - virtually - with his brother Michael.
Kevin is survived by his devoted wife Nanci Larrick (nee Wisneski) and his loving children Brian Larrick and Kelly Altieri (Matthew). He was the proud Pop Pop of Justin and Lilly Altieri and Jack Patrick Larrick.
He is survived by his beloved siblings Patricia Eidy (Larry), Michael (Vickie), Kathleen Pullan (Brian) and Susan. Also surviving are his nieces and nephews Michael, Tamara, Adam, Daniel, Brittney, Patrick, Brendan, Naomi, Eamonn and Courtney.
In addition, he is survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law Susan and Dr. Robert Salvage, Carole and Bob Murphy, Bob Wisneski, and nephews Dr. John Pearce and Colin Murphy.
Kevin was predeceased by his parents Jack and Gloria Larrick and his sister Nancy.
Cheers to 70 years … you brought such joy to our lives … ’til we meet again.
