Ligaya “Gay” Barcinas (nee Acol) of Poway peacefully entered the gates of Heaven on March 5, 2026 at the age of 86. She was the beloved wife of the late Nicomedus. Gay was born in Manila, Philippines. She found joy in simple pleasures like reading books, watching movies, winning at the casinos, and shopping online.
A proud University of Santo Thomas alumna in the Philippines with a bachelor’s degree in English, she spent her career as a teacher. In the late 1960s, she migrated to the United States and worked at Connecticut General Insurance Company and later worked for the United States SPAWAR – Space Naval Warfare Systems Pacific. She retired in 2002.
Gay will be remembered for her warmth, laughter, boundless love, and generosity. She had a way of making everyone feel special. Family and friends are welcome to attend her service.
A visitation will be held at The Immaculata Catholic Church, 5998 Alcala Park Way, San Diego, CA 92110, on April 17, 2026, at 9:30 am, followed by a Funeral Mass at the same location on April 17, 2026, at 10:30 am. A graveside service will take place at El Camino Memorial Park, Loma Siesta Terrace, 5600 Carroll Canyon Road, San Diego, CA 92121, on April 17, 2026, at 12:00 pm.
