Linda Jean Mulcahy of La Jolla, California, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 9, 2024.
Linda was born in May 1942 in Los Angeles, California, the first child of William Curtis Noble and Jean Elizabeth MacCluer. Like her parents, Linda was adventurous, athletic, and intelligent.
She followed their path to Occidental College and then received a teaching degree from San Francisco State University. By then she was married with two daughters. The family relocated to San Diego and at age 25, after the birth of her son, she decided to put her career on hold. She later trained to be a travel agent and managed a successful travel and tour company in La Jolla.
Linda appreciated the beauty of nature, traveled extensively to experience the diversity of other cultures, and enjoyed learning and reading to increase her understanding of the world, of her fellows, and of herself.
Linda delighted in theater productions, the opera, all genres of film, and preferred a day at the ballpark over brunch on Mother’s Day.
Linda met and fell in love with Robert J Mulcahy in her early 40’s and theirs was a true and tender story of a supportive, caring, and joyful marriage. Sadly, the love of her life passed away in April 2024. Linda is also preceded in death by her parents, her brother Walter Gregory MacCluer Noble, and her nephews Scott and Andrew Simpson.
Linda is survived by her sister Penelope Simpson (Kenneth), and children Carolyn Reynolds (Eric Dahl), Diana Sanborn (Grant), and Craig Reynolds. At the time of her passing she had 5 grandchildren and 4 (soon to be 6) great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She holds a special place in our hearts and will be remembered fondly.
Through her marriage to Rob, Linda gained an aection for his wonderful nieces and nephew and their families, and they join us mourning her loss and celebrating her life. Linda Jean Mulcahy was brave, bright, and beautiful. She had the kind of strength reserved only for people that have met great adversity and found a way to the other side. And those eyes, those beautiful eyes, could light the room and lift our hearts.
In honor of her passing, a funeral mass will be held Friday, October 25, at 11:00am at St Brigid Parish 4735 Cass St, Pacific Beach. In celebration of her life, a reception will follow immediately at PB Chapel across the street.
In lieu of flowers, remember Linda’s dream for everyone to seek and find peace in this world, and smile because she has done both.
