Malveen was born on 12/01/1933 to Jack and Minnie Gistel. She had a younger sister, Carol and lived in Grt. neck, NY. In 1953, she married Barry Layne Lewis. They moved to Basil, Switzerland, where Barry went to medical school. They returned to NY for a short period of time, when in 1954, where their oldest son, Marc was born. After finishing med school they moved to Nova Scotia, Canada, where Barry did his residency and in December 1957, Scott was born. In the early 60’s, the family moved to New York. In 1966 their daughter Michelle was born.
In 1966, sick of the NY weather, the family moved to sunny S.D. where they bought a house near SDSU. After living in several different areas of San Diego, Malveen and Barry settled in the community of Ocean Hills in Oceanside California.
Besides being mother and homemaker to Marc, Scott and Michelle, she was grandmother to Jaclyn, Ashley, Rick, Hilary, Brayden, and Chad and great grandmother to Mason, Clay, Wes, Ilya, Mila, and Ella.
Malveen was one of those people who had an eye for art. In the late 70’s and early Mid 80’s, she turned that talent into interior design and opened a company that designed and manufactured contemporary furniture.
Malveen loved to cook. And she was an incredible cook. Her Mac and cheese was legendary. She also loved entertaining and prepared fantastic meals for friends and family for holidays and other celebrations.
Malveen and Barry were both very active in the temple. For many years, Ma coordinated temple events and fundraisers.
Malveen had many other interests. She enjoyed gardening and had the greenest thumb you had ever seen. She could make anything grow. She took a lot of pride in the success of her fruit trees. Walking with her friends in the early morning was one of her favorite activities. Dancing at parties and events was one her favorite things to do. One thing she will always be remembered for was her large flashy earrings.
Later in her life she realized she had an eye for painting. She took many lessons and developed her own technique and style. Just like everything else she did, she was very good at it. Everyone wants one of her paintings.
Her grandchildren were very important to her. She attended all their sporting and academic events.
Malveen was extremely opinionated, stubborn and definitely spunky. She was probably one of the toughest women on the planet.
She will be missed by all.
