Marc Joseph De Silva
November 17, 1961 – May 31, 2011
At the young age of 49, Marc died peacefully at UCSD Hospital. After a 9 day battle his body gave up fighting a blood infection, pneumonia, strokes and hemorrhaging of the brain.
Marc is survived by his mother, Beatrice DeSilva, brother Randy DeSilva (Resa), sister Bridget DeSilva Schoeffel (Brennand) and nine nieces and nephews. His father, Joseph DeSilva, died of cancer in 1999.
Marc was born and raised in San Diego, California and resided in Ocean Beach. He spent the majority of his life as a Commercial Tuna Fisherman, fishing on the M/V Aquarius and then the M/V Sea Encounter. After fishing for approximately 27 years, Marc was forced to retire after having heart surgery. He spent his days in OB and was often seen cruising on his bike, walking his dog, or catching the sunset down at the Cliffs. Marc had friends everywhere he went and was loved by many.
A viewing will be held Monday, June 6th from 5-8pm at Beardsley-Mitchell Funeral Home in Ocean Beach. Funeral services are scheduled at St Agnes Church on Tuesday, June 7th at 10am. He will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery following the funeral.
Everyone that knows Marc will remember his smile, his dimples, his jokes and his huge heart. He was often referred to as a ‘big teddy bear’. He will be greatly missed. His family would like to thank everyone for their support, love and condolences.
