She grew up in San Diego where she met and married the love of her life, Eugene Haden. the couple enjoyed 63 years together and their marriage was blessed with 3 children; Bruce, Mary Jean and Janet. In addition to her children, Mary is survived by one sister, Frances Goerlitz, 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Mary was able to be a stay at home Mom and dedicated herself to raising her family. At one time Mary was concerned about Mary
Jean's anemic condition. She made homemade health drinks in the blender and Mary Jean loved them; until one day she walked
in just in time to see a raw egg dropped in. Mary Jean's fondness for the drink quickly disappeared! when the kids were sick with
sore throats, she would make warm liquid Jello to drink. It was soothing and always tasted so good.
Then there were paper palm trees Mary made with her children and coke bottle concerts as they filled bottles to different levels
with water and made beautiful music together.
She would share how, when she grew up in the 20's & 30's it was a much simpler time. They spent their time playing marbles
and jacks and they would always find some innocent fun. In their teen years the girls were very active with softball.
She was a kind, caring and sweet wife, mother and friend who always had time for you. Loyalty and generosity were also qualities that
Mary possessed and endeared her to everyone who knew her.
Family memories include camping trips to Yosemite, Mammoth and Idyllwild. there were many holiday and weekend get-a-ways to see
the aunts & Uncles and all of the cousins in the LA area and Arizona, and always a close connection to the family that was here in town.
The close family bond that Mary and Eugene, created and always encouraged has brought and unusual sense of unity that extends to the remaining family, and is never more present than at times like these, where love and support are needed.
While Bruce, Mary jean and Janet grew, the Haden family doors were always open to all of their friends and at times there could
be quite a house full. All of those young people think of Mary with love and will always remember the kindness and appreciate
the welcome that was always given.
In later years, Eugene and Mary loved to travel, especially on cruises; their favorite cruise was the one to Alaska.
When Mary lost her husband in 2008, her two daughters, janet and Mary jean and daughter in law, Claudia were dedicated to spending
time with her. As Mary's health declined, she was also assisted by her dedicated care-giver, Dorothy. Dorothy provided physical assistance, spiritual guidance and loving companionship.
During her later years, Mary's faith journey had deepened. six years ago she and Eugene were baptized by Mary jeans's husband in
their backyard jacuzzi. It is to that faith we now turn to comfort and encouragement as we remember and celebrate the life of this very
special lady.
