Mary Marinos, 93 passed away peacefully in her sleep of natural causes early Thursday morning, December 25, 2014.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, George Marinos, her son, Savvas Marinos and his wife, Mindy; her daughter Eleni and her husband Jess Rodriguez and her four grandchildren; Alexander (Zander) Rodriguez, George (Geo) Marinos, Mia Marinos and Nikolas (Niko) Marinos. She is also survived by her sister, Mercedes Goff of El Paso, Texas.
Having completed her high school education and achieving honors and awards of excellence in Gregg Shorthand and typing, Mary worked at the Bank of America as Executive Secretary to the Vice President of the Los Angeles Central office of Southern California.
It was in 1954 when she and George married and moved to San Diego. After moving to San Diego to begin her life as wife and mother, she also became active in the St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church and was elected President of the Ladies National Philoptochos Society; a charitable organization assisting
underprivileged youth and disadvantaged adults. She also served on the committee for the Hellenic
Ball; an event held annually benefitting the Hellenic Cultural Society of San Diego. Mary also enjoyed watching football and was a fan of both the Chargers and USC Trojans.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 8, 2015 at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church; 3655 Park Blvd. San Diego, CA 92103. A Memorial (Trisagion) will be held Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 7:00 PM at Greenwood Memorial Park and Mortuary; 4300 Imperial Avenue, San Diego, CA 92113.
