THE WOMAN: Mary Tillory was born September (09) 26, 1919 to Nancy and James Jackson, in Washington Texas. She was the fourth child of their family of eight children.
HER LIFETIME: Mary received her formal education in Washington Texas; her High School education in Lyons Texas; and graduate year at Pickard High School in Brenham, Texas. She met her soon to be husband Arlister L. Tillory there; and they were married October (10) 15, 1939. They moved to San Diego California in 1943 during the war years. After almost ten years of marriage there was born to this union, four children: Arlister “Leon” Tillory Jr.; “Beverly” D. Tillory; James “Kevin” Tillory; “Marino” E. Tillory, (‘Eugene’). In 1959, Mary (w/Arlister) acquired a child care license and Mary began caring for infant foster children. Arlister and Mary celebrated 67 marriage-anniversary years before Arlister’s Homegoing in 2006. Stricken by the loss of her lifelong and only love; Mary lived mostly secluded throughout her remaining years (except for brief visitations with a few of her dear friends; and the companionship of her beloved son, and his few friends).
HER CAREER: Mary attended Mesa College and also City College for her nursing studies. Was employed at the University Hospital for 11 years; followed by employment at the Veterans Administration Medical Center (Hospital) in La Jolla where she retired in 1989. However, after retirement from the V.A. Hospital Mary enjoyed doing in-home private nursing for elderly persons. When as such, she was recommended by the V.A. Hospital to be the in-home private nurse for world-renowned, Four-Star decorated, Retired General Lemuel C. Shepard Jr., twentieth Commandant of the Marine Corps (The Pacific Fleet Commandant). Appropriately, Mary felt highly honored to care for General Shepard and his wife. Mary was deeply saddened by their passing; just as she was for the many persons she’d cared for during her nursing career.
HER FAITH: Mary became a member of Christ The King Church in 1953. She was a faithful, active member. While serving as 1st Vice President of The Diocesan Council Of Catholic Women (DCCW)--Cathedral Deanery (comprised of various community member Parishes), Mary Tillory began serving as President of The DCCW--Cathedral Deanery during 1997; providing years of service working hand-in-hand with community member Parishes and other Organizations which all sponsored card parties, bake sales, coffee & donuts, and rummage sales to raise money for Vocational awareness. As well as involvement in programs helping the poor of St. Vincent DePaul, Eucharistic Ministers to the sick, Altar work, Lectors, and Choir members. Working at Voting Polls, Soup Kitchens, Meals On Wheels, and Hospice.
Mary also attended St. Paul Methodist Church with her husband Arlister. Amongst their accomplishments with St. Paul, was aiding their local San Diego Community by helping found the Bay Vista Methodist Heights (Apartment Complex). A massive facility of multiple-building, apartment-housing; wonderfully offering various sized, low-rent living-units; made affordable to qualifying low-income families or individuals, who were in-need of housing assistance. Along with their own on-sight nursery school (Gingerbread Nursery); that provided daily care and education for the young-children of working mothers and fathers. The then Bay Vista Methodist Heights had HISTORICALLY become the first HUD project/program; with many more citizen/government provisional HUD programs to follow; unto this very day, and onward.
Her Other Works: On the subject of “FIRSTS”: Mary Tillory was also the first black woman in San Diego to become a checkout register store-clerk (store-cashier) for the local major store chain, Safeway Market on Imperial Avenue.
Mary’s community work in San Diego did not go un-noticed by her peers. Recognized by nearly every Community Organization she joined-in; Mary was an honored recipient of: 1964-Chairman - Board Of Supervisors, County Of San Diego California & Director – Department of Public Welfare, “Award For Service To Children” Official Appreciation and Congratulations, in recognition of FIVE YEARS service in caring for foster children; 1974-Veterans Administration Hospital, “Certificate Of Training” for satisfactory completion of the course in ‘BODY MECHANICS’ Nursing; 1980-St. Paul M.C., “Award of Merit” for exceptional ability and outstanding recognition in Nursing; 1989-The White House, Washington D.C., ”Happy 50th Wedding Anniversary Congratulations Blessing” from George Bush & Barbara Bush (U.S. President & First Lady); 1989-Friends CLARINE and GEORGE, Plaque: “1939-1989 Congratulations On 50th Wedding Anniversary” GOD bless you today and every day with HIS love. Mary did many other private and community works as well.
‘FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS DEAD FAITH.’
In 1999 Mary became victim of a predatory mortgage loan. [Some of you may be familiar with this type of crime.] While growing older and weaker in every way (not unlike many elderly persons), Mary (and husband) fell prey to those who made wrongful use of their need of financial assistance and unwary judgment. Disguised as a financial help loan, these loan sharks trapped Mary into a so-called legal monetary ‘deed of trust’ agreement; that is actually designed to steal their money and home; byinthrough a long-term, high-interest rate mortgage. Ironically, most all of her life Mary (w/ Arlister) had worked and gave her money into helping many others in their community to have affordable, safe housing, food, education, etc., while her own house became rundown and her household was in financial jeopardy to professional CONfidence-MEN (CON-ARTISTS). Here is their scam: AT THE RIPE AGE OF 80 YEARS OLD: Mary (w/Arlister) were duped into borrowing $144,500 from Advanta National Bank (now, JP Morgan Chase Bank, NA). Over a 15 year period almost $219,000 was paid by them, on that loan (i.e., nearly over $75,000 MORE THAN was borrowed; $144,000 + $75,000). HOWEVER, over the entire 15 year monthly installment payments Mary (w/Arlister) was only credited approx. $28,000 payment on loan (principal) repayment. PROVING, the loan sharks have already pocketed approx. $191,000: $144,000 repaid + $47,000 interest. The Cons had originally written-in, ‘At the end of 15 years there will be a balloon loan (principal) payable by Mary; which currently has become: (1) $116,000 payoff; (2) Refinance that amount; (3) or, loss of property (Foreclosure). PROVING, the loan sharks will finally get $307,000: $144,000 repaid + $163,000 profit (interest): Over 200% earned (stolen) on the original loan amount: I.e., $144,000 repaid + $144,000 + $19,000. While, Mary’s house did not have that much Equitable Value (In 1999, Appraiser: Jack Truman of American Benefit Mortgage Company said their/our home’s Appraised Value was $175,000.); she (w/Arlister) will thus end-up paying much, much more for the house, than the house can be Appraised/Sold; IF we can end it (close) their so-called ‘Deed Of Trust’ there; by Balloon-payment Payoff. During 2011-2013, Mary was bombarded with Refinance Offers in the mail from many Mortgage Loan Companies. But, Mary cannot qualify for any of the mortgage loan company offers, because the loan terms cannot be fulfilled by her. During 2014, the crooks (current mortgage holders began worrying Mary, by sending her signatory-receipt certified-letters disclosing her three-options. In their letters to Mary, they estimate to her, that her/our balloon payment (loan payoff) will be $118,704.10 on November (11) 05, 2014. Sometimes, not a single-day went by that Mary wasn’t worried about the mortgage balloon payment; and asking her son, “Who keeps telling her to get out the house?” Or, “Why do I have to get out of my house?” Or, “Is she going to have to get out of her house?” May you recognize that: On Mary’s (w/husband) fixed retirement income; throughout the entire 15 year loan term, they could never have fulfilled the monthly mortgage payments and paid all their other household expenses, and then also save enough money to make a payoff of: $118,704.10. PROVING, Mary (w/husband, Arlister) never qualified for the $144,000 mortgage loan terms; that they were allowed to enter into (suckered into) making by/with said: “PREDATORY LOAN SHARKS”; Because Mary (w/husband) could not fulfill the so-called ‘Trust’ Deed mortgage loan terms. The said Mortgage loan, ‘Deed Of Trust’ as-was, as-is, exists unlawfully. Said crooks obviously intended to get Mary’s mortgage payment money, get any extra-money she managed to save, and failing any of that, get Mary’s home too [R.I.P.e for the pickings?]. Now then, by this outlining you should be able to see: Mary (w/ Arlister) have actually already repaid their borrowed sum of $144,500; and much more. It’s just that the bulk of the money they paid has been going into the pockets of the Mortgage Holders; and not on the mortgage loan principal. Mary (w/Arlister) ‘WILLED’ their home to their surviving family; to pass from generation to generation. What’s continuing at stake (now that the elderly Principals, Arlister & Mary have both died) is: How much more money these con-artists (Morgagers) will inevitably corruptly steal from Mary’s surviving family members;(?) Or, if they will succeed in taking (Foreclosure) the family home away from the Tillory’s children, who’re to inherit their home byinthrough “Arlister & Mary’s Living Trust, Last Will & Testament.”(?) Now, let’s say that at the end of the (1) 15 year loan time, the balloon payment (loan payoff) isn’t paid; and the ‘mortgage loan as-is,’ were to be ‘Reset’ (to continue): Then, (2) at the end of 30 years of installment payments the balloon payment (loan payoff) will be $90,000; and mortgagers will pocket: $470,000 ($144,000 repaid + 326,000 profit (interest)). Next Reset, (3) at the end of 45 years of installment payments, the balloon payment (loan payoff) will be $62,000; and the mortgagers will pocket $633,000 ($144,000 repaid + 489,000 profits). Next Reset, (4) at the end of 60 years of installment payments the balloon payment (loan payoff) will be $34,000; and mortgagers will pocket $796,000 ($144,000 repaid + 652,000 profits). Next Reset, (5) at the end of 75 years of installment payments the balloon payment (loan payoff) will be $6,000; and mortgagers will pocket $959,000 ($144,000 repaid + 815,000 profits). Now that’s what you call a million-dollar home? But who can complete a 75 year Reset Mortgage ‘Deed Of Trust’ Agreement like that?..when you’re already 80 years old to begin with? “The said Mortgage loan ‘Deed Of Trust’ as-was & as-is, exists unlawfully.” AGAIN PROVING, Mary (w/husband, Arlister) never qualified for the $144,500 mortgage loan terms that they were entered-into (suckered-into) borrowing, by/with said: “PREDATORY LOAN SHARKS.” Because Mary (w/husband) could not fulfill the so-called ‘Trust’ Deed mortgage loan terms. So please let her/our experience be a lesson to us-only. While we pray, “Don’t let Mary’s (our’s), experience be your’s too; those of you who’ve heard Mary’s story. Rather, learn from what is revealed to ya’ll now, by/in this. Always ‘do the math’ thoroughly with careful, deep consideration, before trusting anyone with your home/life. When we become old, we’re not as sharp as we used to be. And so wolves in sheep’s clothing are always on the prowl to prey upon the weak and the old. We’re sure there are many people who suffer many things in-private, without telling anyone about their awful-est circumstances and without asking anyone for help. This Obituary is a late-change to that stifling-object [‘Move that mountain’]. And, ‘Keep Watch!’ …As, our Lord, has admonished us. For the mysterious iniquity of sin and Satan is still working around here amongst us and against us. Crooks wear various types of masks. And although they’re sophisticatedly-corrupt; some will always attempt to appear legitimate. May we continue to reveal all of the scam-work being done. And un-mask all of the crooks with crafty devices aimed at cheating us out of our money and homes; and whatsoever they can steal from us. Amen!”
Mary died of Pancreatic Cancer and complications associated with that painful condition. Compounded by the failings of Apreva Hospice nurses (and doctor), to properly diagnose an accompanying illness (Perentitis) of Mary’s during their tenure. Mary was in severe pain for nearly two-days while her condition was mis-managed. The glands of her face and neck were largely swollen; one side protruded outward. To get proper treatment, her son removed Apreva, and hospitalized Mary. Scripps Mercy Hospital did excellently for the most part. During her hospitalization, she told her son, “Help me get home son.” When she arrived home, even though her senses were dulled by the medication and her eyes were closed. She knew immediately when that gurney she was laying on had crossed the threshold into her house; and she began trying to speak her recognition and thanks. After one day, Mary was in extreme discomfort and complained of lower abdominal area pain; increasing daily. Despite her son’s regular concerns to Hospice nurses, the Scripps Mercy Hospice nurses continued to neglect proper observation & maintenance of Mary’s catheter. And after about six (6) days of trying to figure out why Mary was enduring increased suffering. It was discovered by the family that Mary was suffering, because the catheter was not working; and her urine was being unescapably trapped inside her bladder (for 6 days). She was unable to pass her urine. Scripps Mercy Hospice was informed and they later sent a nurse to assess the family’s claim. The nurse confirmed to Hospice doctors that the catheter indeed was not working; and got permission to remove the faulty catheter, for a new catheter that worked properly. Thank GOD! Mary’s ordeal was finally over. Subdued by I.V. pain medication, Mary rested better while awaiting her death. She had loyal visitors who came by occasionally. And on April (04) 24, 2014 at 8:10am, at the ripe old age of 94 years 7 months old, she died quietly in the embrace of her beloved son Kevin. THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD visited our home many times after Mom died (and showed me “Kevin” many things). On the morning of May (05) 01, 2014 between 6am & 6:30am, THE SPIRIT revealed to me that the last-thing Mama prayed continuously was, “GOD take me home.” Her prayer was granted. I submit to you, “THE MEASURE OF A WOMAN."
