

Ruth Millicent Horne was born in Grand Rapids Michigan on November 4, 1913. Her parents moved the family to San Diego when she was just an infant. They settled in Encanto where they established and ran a chicken ranch. Millicent attended San Diego High School. After graduation she worked as a legal secretary and married Jean Du Paul, who would later become City Attorney of San Diego. They had two daughters, Jeanne and Helen. After her husband’s death in 1961 she met and married Stan Horne and moved to the Bay Area where she lived for twenty five years making many new friends and enjoying activities with the Peninsula Women’s’ Club. After Stan’s death she returned to San Diego and lived in Crown Point where she spent time with family, revisited old friends and was actively involved with the Catholic Women of the North Shore and Mission Bay Yacht Club. She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Smerdon, her son in law, Lew Bedford, 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Services will be held at Our Lady of Refuge Church at 1pm on Thursday July 7 .Millicent was a long time member of Mission Bay Yacht Club and we ask that donations be made to JIB (Juniors In Boating) in her memory in Lieu of flowers.
