Milton was born in the town of Winnetoon, Nebraska. His early years were shaped by his close-knit and religious family. He was taught to work hard and to save his money, values imparted by living in a small rural town during the Great Depression. His father owned the local drug store, and Milton often helped out behind the counter. After completing high school, he and his family moved to San Diego, where he attended college. He interrupted his education to serve his country by joining the Army Air Force, serving in several operational theatres as a communications specialist. After his honorable discharge he completed his education at San Diego State University, then began his career in banking at Bank of America. In 1949, Milton met and married the love of his life, Maxine. They initially lived in Linda Vista and Serra Mesa, eventually settling in Chula Vista where they raised four children and lived in the same house for 59 years.
Milton was active in charitable organizations for most of his adult life. He was a member of the Congregational Church of Chula Vista for over 50 years. He used his business acumen to help guide its financial affairs, serving for many years on its Board of Trustees. He also was a long-time member of the National City Lions Club, where he enjoyed his camaraderie with other members and fund-raising at its annual 4th of July festival.
Milton loved family gatherings. Whether we were getting together to celebrate birthdays, holidays, Mayflower picnics, or Sunday Brunches—Milton loved any excuse to get together, to share our lives, and keep the family connected.
On behalf of the family, we appreciate your presence today and the sharing of your time with us.
Thank you.
