 Nancy had such a big heart and was full of love. She almost always had a great big smile and a sense of childlike wonder about her. She loved God and often  wanted to talk about Him and what she was studying or learning in Bible study.   She loved her family with all of her heart. She was gentle, but also strong. Nancy was a true friend and I will always remember and miss her. 

My name is Sherrie Durkin Davidson. I grew up across the street from Nancy! We were great friends! She taught me some Spanish.  We both were committed to our faith in God!  I will always hold a special place in my heart for Nancy!

I feel that my mother’s story begins and ends with her faith. No one ever needed to give a great first impression for her to like you; she saw goodness in everyone because, to her, they were all children of God. I saw the love she gave to her grandchildren and she would always say that they are her “blessings from God”. God is where she gathered her strength. I could see that when she spoke about the gospel or went to church. I really hope that she noticed that the messages of the bible I read to her the past couple months gave me strength as well. I felt the best messages seemed to have a recurring theme which is in Romans (8:18). 'For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.' Essentially: We are suffering now but it does not compare to the peace that awaits us.

My mom had a remarkable ability of being present in the moment for her family and friends. I’m certainly not saying she was 100% present or invested in each moment of her life, because I certainly remember how often she would fall asleep in the movie theaters for an early afternoon showing. But regardless, something that for me, is difficult at times, but came so naturally to her. When you spoke to her you knew she had your full attention, when the grandkids were with her she wanted no second spared with them. Again, she just truly cared about everyone. So during the toughest moments of her last months, I felt the support from her family and friends and their desire to be present with her because she would have done the same thing for us. 

Mom, I know you are here watching and reading this, we all miss you so much, please know that your faith and lessons of being present for the people we care for give me comfort and I will use that to be a better friend, brother, son, father, and husband.

I met Nancy when we worked at Kaiser.
We had wonderful times when occasionally 4 os us met for dinner at the sizzler . We always lost track of time. And Nancy noticed that the employees where putting up the chairs she would say “I think they want us to leave. Such  a great! sister in Christ and a great loss.

I will always remember Nancy's bright smile, warm heart, sense of humor and passion for helping others. A beautiful lady inside and out. You are truly missed.

Growing up, my brother and I would look forward to visiting our Tía Nancy and Uncle Ron. We’d hop on the train from San Diego and Nancy would pick us up at the train station. It was a blast hanging out at their place, she’d take us out for banana splits, breakfast at Huff’s, or a  stroll through the Goldenwest Swapmeet. If we were lucky, my dad would take us to Disneyland, the dealbreaker as for any other 10 year-old, was going to Sunday mass. 

Her bubbly personality, could light up any room. 

Her corny dad jokes are definitely worth writing.

Her infatuation of pan dulce, Trader Joe’s and anything with the word “Jesus”.

She took the role as the family hinge, holding the entire structure upright, and would make the time to commute to San Diego to check up on her dad, Johnny, Elena, and everyone else.

She held all the qualities necessary to be called an angel.  I ask God,  that she watch over her grandchildren, Mia, Elliot, Ron, Johnny, and everyone else. 

I’m overjoyed to call her my aunt, mi Tía Nancy. 




Nancy was such a sweet, gentle, upbeat soul who always wore a smile and had a big hug for you.  Her beautiful face and loving presence brought instant cheer. She adored her family and found strength and comfort in her faith.  Both sustained her through the terrible ordeal of her illness. She kept on smiling.  
We will miss her so. Quite simply, she was the sweetest person I ever knew. 
God Bless her. We love you, Nancy.
