

Neal was born April 5, 1934, in Ohio. His father was a United Methodist Minister, and so lived in six different urban communities prior to college. He earned his BS degree from Ohio University, Graduating in 1957. He Applied for Navy Officer Candidate School, was accepted, and spent the following three years of active duty on Destroyers. Neal remained in the ready reserves for a total of 20 years retiring as a commander in 1977.
Prior to leaving Ohio in 1960, to accept an engineering position in San Diego, he was the Commanding Officers of NRSD 4-71. He received his Masters of Business Administration degree in 1975.
During his working years he was employed by three major corporations, and held Engineering and or Financial Management positions in each of them. Neal retired from General Dynamics; Space Systems Division in 1996. He was a registered Professional Engineer in the State of California. Among his many associations were: American Institute of Industrial Engineers and the Association of Iron and Steel Engineers.
in 1998 he met his second wife while living in Rancho Bernardo. It was love at first sight, and he married his beloved Roberta in 1999. They lived several years in Rancho Bernardo, but decided it would be prudent to move to a continuing care facility in order to avoid the certain burden that would fall on their offspring when their health began to fail. So they moved to the Vi at La Jolla Village Continuing Care community in 2008, where they have remained until present.
Neal is survived by his wife Roberta and his three children Steven Hearn, Diane Sawyer, and Sharon Steward.
Services will be held at Miramar National Cemetery on October 25 at 9:00am
In lieu of flowers Neal Would suggest donations to the Vi at La Jolla Village Employee Appreciation Fund.
