

Neil Geis, a 53 year San Diego resident, died of natural causes in San Diego, California. He was 85. Neil was a loving husband, father, grandfather and patriot. Born in Nebraska on the Geis homestead, he was the youngest of 6 children. Neil joined the Navy in 1947 and served as an enlisted Sailor, attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was then commissioned and retired as a Lieutenant Commander in 1973 after 26 years of faithful and patriotic service. Neil was a man of action and volunteerism. He drove wounded veterans to and from medical appointments and repaired wheelchairs. He coached his children's sports teams and was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He was a founding member of the Vietnam Unit Memorial Monument and helped build a lasting memorial to the Brown Water Navy in Vietnam, where he served in 1969. Neil is survived by his children, Steve, Karen, Paula, Kenneth, and Bob, and their spouses, Valerie, John, Arlene and Teresa. Neil was the proud grandfather to Nicole, Matthew, David, Kristina, Joseph, Daniel, Katie, Robert, Brian and Megan. He is preceded by his parents, brothers and sisters and his loving wife of 51 years, Patricia. He was a devout Catholic and his funeral mass will be at Good Shepherd Parish, where he was a parishioner since 1972, on Friday, July 24th at 10:00 am.
