Born on January 18, 1982, to Ge Pang Yang and Song Thao Yang, Nhia was a cherished son and a vibrant presence from the very beginning. He was the second of five children — a proud younger brother to John, and a loving older brother to Sarah, Susan, and Christine. His role in the family was unique: bold in spirit, warm in heart, and always ready to stand up for those he loved.
Beyond his big presence, there was a quiet strength in the way he cared for others. He helped without needing to be asked and gave without expecting anything in return. Whether he was among lifelong friends or complete strangers, Nhia had a remarkable way of making people feel seen, included, and at ease. He could walk into a place knowing no one and walk out having made a new friend.
Nhia embraced life with a passion that could be felt by everyone around him. His humor was quick and clever. His laughter could fill an entire room, and his personality made him impossible to forget. He loved fishing and football - especially when it meant he could cheer loudly and celebrate wins with friends and family.
Above all else, Nhia’s greatest love was his family. He is survived by his partner, Yer Xiong, and his two beautiful children, Madelyn and Adam, who were truly the lights of his life. His legacy of love, loyalty, and laughter continues through them, and through every life he touched.
Today, as we honor his journey, we hold close the memories that make us smile and the lessons he left in his wake: to love unconditionally, laugh loudly, and show up for others, just as he always did.
May his soul find peace and may we carry his spirit forward in life.
