Olga María (Cárcamo) Morales "Baba"

Olga María Cárcamo was born in Granada, Nicaragua to Samuel David Cárcamo and Olga Leonor Morales, both from Nicaragua. She was the eldest surviving child of the pair (three total) and of three younger siblings from Samuel’s subsequent marriage to María Elena Sanabria (Nicaragua).

As a teenager in 1963, she came to southern California to live with her mother Olga. It was in this initial arrival in San Diego California that she met her future husband of fifty-five years, Leonardo Morales (originally from Cuba).

Olga María finished her secondary education at Immaculate Heart High School in Los Angeles, and subsequently enrolled in cosmetology coursework at Marinello-Comer School of Beauty. She married Leonardo Morales in Los Angeles in 1968, and their first of two children, David, was born in 1969.

In 1971, the family moved to Puerto Rico where their second child, Leonardo, was born in 1972. Within a few years, they returned to southern California where they lived in both San Diego (Pacific Beach) and Los Angeles until finally moving into their current home of over forty-five years in the Clairemont area of San Diego.

Olga worked as a hairstylist from the mid-1970s until sometime about 2015 when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Throughout her years in San Diego, she was a pivotal figure not only for her own immediate family who eventually relocated from Nicaragua to San Diego, but also for her husband Leonardo’s family who loved and respected her dearly. For many years, their house was the gathering point for the winter holidays for family and friends from all sides.

Olga María passed away naturally and peacefully at home in the presence of family. She is preceded in death by her parents, her older sister Lupita Minar (who died in childhood), and the ancestors from Nicaragua whom she held dear. She is survived by her husband of fifty-five years Leonardo, sons David and Leonard and their respective spouses Nicole (Franklin) and Tracey (Sheils), and grandchildren Zachary, Amayi, Nilaya, and Christian. She is also survived by her stepmother María Elena Cárcamo, siblings Samuel, Carmen Cecilia (Gudino), Alex, Roberto, and their respective spouses and children who all loved their Tía Olga. She is survived as well by many relatives close and far whom she held dear, as family for her was a motivating force.

Olga María Cárcamo nació en Granada, Nicaragua, hija de Samuel David Cárcamo y Olga Leonor Morales, ambos de Nicaragua. Ella era la hija mayor sobreviviente de la pareja (tres en total) y de tres hermanos menores del segundo matrimonio de Samuel con María Elena Sanabria (Nicaragua).

Cuando era adolescente, en 1963, llegó al sur de California para vivir con su madre Olga. Fue en esta llegada inicial a San Diego, California que conoció a su futuro esposo durante cincuenta y cinco años, Leonardo Morales (originario de Cuba).


Olga María terminó su educación secundaria en Immaculate Heart High School en Los Ángeles y posteriormente se matriculó en cursos de cosmetología en Marinello-Comer School of Beauty. Se casó con Leonardo Morales en Los Ángeles en 1968 y en 1969 nació el primero de dos hijos, David.

En 1971, la familia se mudó a Puerto Rico donde nació su segundo hijo, Leonardo, en 1972. A los pocos años regresaron al sur de California donde vivieron tanto en San Diego (Pacific Beach) como en Los Ángeles hasta que finalmente se mudaron a su Hogar actual desde hace más de cuarenta y cinco años en el área de Clairemont de San Diego.

Olga trabajó como estilista desde mediados de la década de 1970 hasta aproximadamente 2015, cuando le diagnosticaron la enfermedad de Alzheimer. A lo largo de sus años en San Diego, ella fue una figura fundamental no solo para su propia familia inmediata, que finalmente se mudó de Nicaragua a San Diego, sino también para la familia de su esposo Leonardo, quienes la amaban y respetaban profundamente. Durante muchos años, su casa fue el punto de reunión de familiares y amigos de todas partes durante las navidades.

Olga María falleció de forma natural y pacífica en su casa en presencia de familiares. Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres, su hermana mayor Lupita Minar (que murió en la infancia) y los antepasados de Nicaragua a quienes ella apreciaba. Le sobreviven su esposo Leonardo de cincuenta y cinco años de matrimonio, sus hijos David y Leonardo y sus respectivas esposas Nicole (Franklin) y Tracey (Sheils), sus nietos Zachary, Amayi, Nilaya, y Christian. También le sobreviven su madrastra María Elena Cárcamo, sus hermanos Samuel, Carmen Cecilia (Gudino), Alex, Roberto y sus respectivos cónyuges e hijos, quienes amaban a su Tía Olga. También le sobreviven muchos parientes cercanos y lejanos a quienes apreciaba como familia, y quienes para ella eran una fuerza motivadora.
