Oliva B. Glorioso passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on April 12, 2024 at home in Solana Beach, CA, surrounded by loved ones. She was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, and great-grandmother, well known to all as a religious, smart, caring, and strong, independent woman. She was a very hard-worker who was well-loved and had a long, blessed life.
Olive (her nickname) was the 4th of 6 children born in Norzagaray, Bulacan, Philippines. She survived World War II in the Philippines but endured many hardships growing up as a result of the War. With prayers, hard work and sacrifices from both her and her parents, she was able to graduate with a BSN degree from the School of Nursing at Manila Central University in Caloocan, Philippines in 1953. She later took and passed the RN Board Exam, with almost a perfect score, to become an RN. She worked in Public Health and was soon accepted for the Nurses Visitor Exchange Program to work at a US hospital in Wilmington, Delaware, traveling by boat for 30 days to the US.
While working in the US, Olive met her forever love, Eladio Glorioso, who was in the US Navy. They happily married in Philadelphia, PA, in 1955. While living in Lakehurst, NJ, where Eladio was then stationed, they were blessed with a baby boy in 1956. They later moved to San Francisco, CA, for 6 months before transferring to San Diego. While living in Chula Vista, they were blessed with a baby girl in 1958. In 1962 they bought their first home together in National City, CA, and raised their 2 children there. The home was walking distance to Paradise Valley Hospital (PVH), where Olive started working as an RN in 1963. In 1965, Olive studied and passed the Medical Technologist (MT) Board Exam. She continued working at PVH but at a higher level as an MT and CLS, working her way up to become Laboratory Head of several critical departments, and of Point of Care Management. She retired in 2002 at the age of 71 after working at PVH for 39 years. After retiring, Olive took classes in Basic Computer Skills and Typing, and continued her passion for Floral Arranging, Gardening and watching EWTN. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her faith, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Oliva B. Glorioso is preceded in death by husband Eladio Glorioso, and son Eladio A. Glorioso. She is survived by daughter Oliva M. Baronner (Tom), grandchildren Darren, Lauren, Megan (Carlos), Tommy, Melanie, Jessica (Eric) and great-grandchildren Augie, Hazy, Natalie, Eli and Cailin. Olive will always be remembered for her faith, love of family and friends, her sharp memory, intelligence and hard work. May she now have Eternal Rest in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father until we meet again.
