Born to a strong Catholic family in South Bend, Indiana, Pat moved to San Diego in 1981 and spent the decade writing and producing newscasts at Channels 8 and 10. Seeking to strengthen the modern American family, this Indiana University alumnus received his Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of San Diego in the early nineties. Shortly thereafter he became the guidance counselor at St. Augustine High School where his faith and strength of character helped him guide generations that are building a strong foundation for the future.
On March 1, 2012, Pat received the news that he had pancreatic cancer, a challenge he and his family accepted, ever confident in God’s plan for him. Pat demonstrated courage and humor in his remaining days. Shortly after sunset on March 30th, 2012, Pat Healy completed the path God set before him. At his side were his wife, Marla, his daughters, Madelyn and Brighid, and his sons, Patrick and Michael. Outside their home was a candle-lit prayer vigil consisting of more than 100 people who had come to support their friend. Never one to shy from conflict, and never without his own sense of direction; his memory will always bring laughter and inspiration to those who knew him.
Patrick is survived by his wife, Marla, sons, Patrick and Michael, daughters, Madelyn and Brighid, step-son, Brendan, brothers, Francis and Terry, sisters, Kathleen and Mary K, and one Grandchild, Keira.
Rosary and vigil service are planned for Tuesday, April 3, at 6:00 pm at The Immaculata on the USD campus. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 4, at 10:00 am, also at The Immaculata, followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.
