Poy Low

Poy Low was a warm hearted, gentle, kind man with a very genuine smile. He passed away peacefully in La Jolla at the age of 95 years surrounded by his family. Poy was born in Canton, China and was a devoted husband for 65 years to Chow Hun, a former medical doctor in China.

He stressed education , service, and kindness to his three sons. Gary became a Doctor of Pharmacy , Stanley a Chief Structural Engineer and Wesley a Chief of Head and Neck Surgery. He had three wonderful daughter in laws and five talented grandchildren.

Poy was a Structural Engineer and one of the three founding partners at Burkett and Wong Engineers in 1972, an award winning San Diego Engineering firm. Poy earned a Masters of Science in Civil Engineering from San Diego State University in 1969. He served out his career with Burkett and Wong until his retirement about 25 years ago. He was described as a pioneering engineer, an outstanding partner and friend, who was fully committed to the success of his friends and family.

Poy built a large ocean view home in the Muirlands area of La Jolla, and raised his family there for the past 40 years. He enjoyed gardening, tending to his fish pond, and reading about current events.

It is celebrated that he lived a long and successful life. He touched many lives and made the world a better place. We will miss him greatly and always remember his love for family and friends.

A funeral service will occur Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 10:00 AM, 5600 Carroll Canyon Road, San Diego, CA 92121. A graveside service will occur Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 11:15 AM at El Camino Memorial Park, 5600 Carroll Canyon Road, San Diego, CA 92121.
