

Ramona passed away on August 30, 2014 peacefully in her home surrounded by family, at the age of 98. She was born Ramona Marquez, to Lauro Marquez and Mariana G. Marquez, in Tyrone, New Mexico, on July 23, 1916. When Ramona was 2, she and her family, moved to San Diego where she continued to live for the next 96 years and where she married and had her 10 children.
In 1934, she married Jose Jesus Diaz, an artist from Exatlan, Mexico. They were married 62 years until his death in 1996.
Ramona devoted her entire life to her family. Her true passion was being an active and devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in San Diego. She was known for her devotion to her Catholic faith, and her pride in her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Arthur Diaz, Jesse Diaz, George Diaz, and Gilbert Diaz; daughters, Josephine Gutierrez, Anna Valadez, Carmen Arredondo, and Lourdes Leal; son-in-laws, Paul Valadez, Juan Arredondo, and Alex Leal; daughter-in-laws, Aida Diaz, Margie Diaz, and Patricia Diaz; her sister, Lupe Garcia; her dear friend and caregiver, Esther Robles; thirty-two grandchildren, forty-five great grandchildren, and ten great great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and close friends. Two of her sons, Benjamin Diaz and Raymond Diaz preceded her in death.
Ramona will be best remembered for her kindness to others, her sweet spirit, and her warm caring heart. She will be missed greatly by her family but will always be close to us through the joy of memories and the beauty of her love.
Visitation services are on Monday, September 8, 2014 from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Goodbody Mortuary 5027 El Cajon Blvd. San Diego, CA 92115. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 12:00 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church 1770 Kearney Ave. San Diego, CA 92113. The Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery 4300 Imperial Avenue San Diego, CA 92113 after the mass. A Reception will be held at V.F.W. POST 2082 located at 2885 Lemon Grove Avenue Lemon Grove, CA 91945 immediately following the burial.
Blessed are those who died in the Lord; let them rest from their labors for their good deeds go with them.
Eternal rest grant Ramona, O Lord.
